After hours of playing I realized this was the censored version of Fallout. How can I get back to using the uncensored version?

And not just the child patch either. I had language filter off but vulgar languages are still censored.

bump
I don't think you can, but it doesn't really matter all that much to the feel of the game in the long run.

Oh yes it does matter. The dark humor in this censored crap is gone. The dark humor is what got most people into fallout to begin with.

And I had the language filter off but then this guy still said "%$@!" instead of shit. What is up with that?

I never really noticed that kind of stuff, but I'll keep looking for those patches.
It's not even the same fallout anymore, I don't even want to play it now.
Install the 3 first patches in the order they are listed. The link to the child patch is dead so use [url=http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1348]This one instead. Sadly, it will void your savefiles, so you have to start over, if you haven't done this already.

I do not personally recommend the rest of the patches unless you want to alter the gameplay a lot.

The gog version is censored? Is that the same for Fallout 2? Is it region based which version you get? I'm glad I have the Fallout Trilogy disc.

No, backups won't help. Installing the patches makes the files unloadable. You can keep your current game, OR you can install some mods, but you can't have both.

Many games suffer from this kind of dilemma, sadly.

Yes, the UK version came out after the US version and had some updates to it, so GOG based their version on that, but it also had many things censored to be UK acceptable because they're stuffy like that.

The UK version was simply the most updated post-release, and therefore is the most current version. There's no policy against children in the games, just a conscious habit of trying to make sure the game is the most up-to-date and supported they can get it.
That's why Fallout 2 has children, instead of invisible pickpockets. :D

What an odd situation. I had no idea the European version had a more recent update. Thanks to you and Lokathor for the info.
Um I installed patch 1.2 correctly and the children patch and my save files still work.

It may be possible to keep playing with unofficial patches, but keep your eyes open for funky bugs.
