So I never had Goris join my party in any past playthroughs so I was going to have him join me this time. Anyway, when I first met him he seemed willing to join but I already had my full allotment of companions (Vic, Sulik, and Cassidy with 6 Charisma and no magnetic personality perk).

I was there to get the GECK though and I figured once I did that it would make enough RPG sense to ditch Vic. So I went back to Arroyo, found it ruins, and then dropped Vic back off home at Klamath as I had only picked him up to find the GECK anyway.

Then I head back to Vault 13, see that everyone was wiped out and talk to Goris and he says he wants to avenge his brothers so I ask him to join me. He does, but then immediately says something about his pack being in trouble, disappears and then reappears right in front of me. I talk to him again and he joins up again and then immediately disappears and reappears again (this time without mentioning his pack).

Am I missing something? It's been a while since I played through this but I seem to remember finding and freeing an intelligent Deathclaw from the Enclave, do i have to do that before Goris will join me?

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Talk to Gruthar, the alpha male, first, then go back to Goris.

No, rescue the Deathclaw in Navarro is not required. After disappearing, he doesn't accept your offer to join anymore?
If you want to finish the game with Goris in your group, I advice you to install this: http://www.nma-fallout.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=770 because you don't want the battles to take forever to end.
Can you send me your save files? If I can fix your problem, you won't need to reload a older save.

@Hickory: Gruthar is already dead. And I did talk to him when I first got there, he told me to talk to Goris.

@almabirds: He accepts to join every time and every time he does it fades to black and when it fades back in there's a split second where he's not onscreen then he pops in, but not as a member of my party.

I had actually saved it just before returning to Vault 13 so after a few attempts I just gave up and went about completing some other quests.

Is the fact that I'm playing the Mac version going to affect any of this?

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Mac version...
I was going to use Vad's savegame editor to edit your files, but I doubt it would work, since you're playing in Mac.
Normally what would happen is that Goris would join your party and then after you bring the GECK back to Arroyo, he would say he sensed his pack is in trouble and take off. Then when you return to Vault 13 he would rejoin. Try getting him to join your party, then when he leaves just head out to NCR for a day or so. Come back and pick him up after a little time has passed.

Mac version should have no effect.

I didn't think of that. Cool, I'll try it out and report back what happens.
Okay that worked. I went to Vault 13, Goris told me to check out the video, I asked him to join, he said yes, then immediately left because his pack was in trouble, then I left went to the Military Base and spent a couple days in San francisco, came back and this time he joined up with me permanently.

I guess in the future I'll just have him join me before I bring the GECK back to Arroyo so there won't be any of this confusion.

Glad to hear it!
