Hola friendos.

I'm very upset because I can no longer progress in the game without restarting entirely (I fear), and it is all because of the bloody Boneyard. I spent some time there talking to some zimmers and some mens and decided that I would head back to The Hub. I went and talked to Harold's looney friend sweepy or whatever he is called and asked him very nicely to take my to the Deathclaw. Boom crash kasploosh end.

It also prevented me from loading back into my latest save which was located at the Boneyard. That make me wonder, because I had no problems in the actual boneyard (I went to the Regulator and Blade home only, and peeked into Deathclaw city). So what changed inbetween me leaving boneyard and asking swanky to take me to the deathclaw?

I tried downloading fixt and of course none of my saves work with that. I don't know if starting a new game with FIXT will allow me to progress past that point, but I'd rather not have to use it at all.

Thanks lads

Unfortunately you'll have to fall back to an earlier save game. The game has a tendency to break saves from time to time and the Boneyard part is full of scripting error pitfalls (especially the Zimmerman/Blades/Regulators part).

FIXT addresses a lot of issues, but even with this patch installed the Boneyard is still bug ridden. Save often in case something goes wrong. Anyway, as your saves won't work with FIXT, this patch isn't a solution here, just an option for a new game.

If the game breaks again, check this walkthrough for details on the Boneyard and how to circumvent some known bugs:

DiMignon is right. The Boneyard is and always has been wonky. You never know what might happen when you visit there.

What I always tell people is to be sure to use a system of several save slots. I have one save slot I use every single time just before I leave any area for the world map. I have another save slot I use every single time I enter a new area from the world map. Then I have two I use while I'm in an area, usually after I complete something I don't want to have to do over again if something goes wrong.

You always want to be able to return to the first time you entered an area if you have to.

Haha. Well I'm especially plucked because I developed a little system where I only save once per town visit, just so I wouldn't pull any sneaky 'oops, that went wrong. At least I saved two seconds ago'. Came into this game blind, wasn't expecting my saves to asplode :P serves me right for challenging myself! Thanks guys.

I wish I could say Fallout 1 was reliable enough to do that, or to go Ironman, but it's just not. Not even with FIXT.

Fallout 1 and 2 are super fun to play Ironman. You just have to accept the risk.
