Gekko_Dekko: this?
I needed to use a 32bit prefix and have:
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES=mshtml

I think thats whats needed. Oh and I have to launch it via the launcher not directly from the FalloutNV.exe that crashes for some reason. I also have wine-mono installed and am using wine-staging.

Gekko_Dekko: did anybody success with running fallout NV on arch?

Wine 3.13 (also have wine-gecko installed). Tried both 32 bit and 64bit prefixes, existing and brand new. Tried wine-mono and dotnet40 (both from game's installation and via winetricks). Tried to install gstreamer. Tried to run game with intel and nvidia gpus. Still no luck - game installs successfully but segfault on launch.

Or does it require staging?
Does this issue happen with my wrapper too?

My wrapper uses Wine Staging 3.10 32-bit, Gecko is blocked from installation at prefix creation & update (Mono is installed but not strictly required - the game itself doesn't need it but it seems a common requirement of certain mods/tools), winegstreamer is disabled to prevent a potential issue with regular crashing.

didnt try your wrapper yet

I think, thats the deal.
I've tried to make it work with non-staging (wine 3.13), at it doesnt work at all. Tested with (separately) wine-gecko and wine-mono installed, in clear 64 and 32 bit prefixes. Tried to preinstall dotnet40, direct x from redistributable and vc 2008/10/12. Tried to disable csmt.

Same results - both launcher and game itself segfault on launch (while .lnk print some message about wrong exe).

Some people on winehq suggested to check recommendations for fallout3, which featured setting windows version to 8. But this also didnt help (same for any other versions).

I guess, at this point its safe to say that game is unplayable without staging patches :/

I just did a quick test wine 3.13-1 wine-mono 4.7.3-1 32bit prefix installed game via installer. I cancel the 2008 C++ runtime install, the .net spots the mono and mentions newer version and aborts. Start the launcher it sets defaults and press play the game works. I did have an occasion where the menu disappears, think its related to the game losing focus when it was loading. Also as before the game exe crashes if I try to start with it.

Out of interest I used the uninstaller to remove the other runtimes that get installed made no difference to things, game main exe fails and the launcher works. I only tested by skipping the intro vid and getting to the woozy wakeup with the Doc.
I briefly checked with Wine 3.14 and it doesn't crash with that. I'd still strongly recommend using Wine Staging anyway though as it has fewer issues than regular Wine (particularly with regards to radio playback).

I've been re-testing Fallout 3 with 3.13 and 3.14 to see if any of the issues it has have been resolved as someone posted a report giving it a platinum rating with 3.13, but unfortunately it still has all of the same issues as before. Since FONV uses the same engine and seems to have the same issues (or at least all of the ones I've checked) it seems like a good idea to use staging for that too.

but isnt staging abandoned?
It was for a while, but not any more: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Wine-Staging-Revival

So, I've changed a LOT, because I wanted to get it working with ENB (finally got to the point where I realized that maybe I have a too old GPU to use that, will still use enboost though), everything took so long to setup so I really don't want to have to reinstall and start from scratch.

My problem: voices suddenly stopped working (the rest of the sound is just fine), I have no idea what might've caused it (my best guess would be that I did winetricks d3dx9 or maybe that I changed some setting somewhere that I've forgotten about) so I'm just checking if you have an idea or if I have to reinstall after all.

Start winecfg (advanced options --> configure wine) and look under the libraries tab for overrides for any of the following:

amstream
devenum
dsound
quartz

Change the overrides for any that exist to "builtin" and see if that fixes it.
It did not, however it did produce an error report which confirmed what I had already suspected, I installed a mod that wasn't really a mod but a change in what libraries the game uses when it comes to sound, I don't have the original ones left unfortunately (and honestly, I've changed so many settings that I'm starting to think that I should probably reinstall either way, even if it means that I have to spend another couple of hours or so trying to set it up haha).

edit: might as well show what it was:

wine: Call from 0x7bc7aa39 to unimplemented function libvorbis.dll.vorbis_synthesis_idheader, aborting

Just wanted to drop by and say thanks! (both for the wrapper and for trying to help with my stupid error)

I've got it working now with 50-100 mods, texture pack and extra LOD, enboost and nvse (forcing AA through nvidia settings), can probably fine tune to make it slightly better but it's really fine as it is now, not sure if I would've managed without this wrapper (and if I would, it would've taken at least another couple of days or something and this already took me almost a week LOL), so thanks!

Edit: I just realized something: I have no idea how wine works, and I only got ENB for the help with memory problems in the engine, is that even necessary through wine? Or does wine bypass that either way? Because if it does then I should probably just remove ENB since my GPU isn't good enough for the extra graphical effects it can produce (at least not on a high resolution through wine) and if wine bypasses those memory issues then ENB is just in the way.

Edit2: Just thought I'd make another update (without making a new post this time), I've managed to get the game running lag/stutter free on settings better than ultra now, doing a lot of tweaks with enb/nvsr and using bethini, so for anyone wondering, this wrapper works great and the game runs good off the bat, but to get the best performance (unless you just want to play it vanilla) I recommend setting up a different wineprefix to install tools like xEdit and a mod manager etc on so you don't accidentally ruin this one while trying to fix something you did wrong and have to reinstall (like I did) and really look into the different options on nvsr/enb and only change one setting at a time to see if and how it makes a difference before changing the next one, because they really can make a LOT of difference.

Thank you adamhm for doing this. (Game developers better start making games native for Linux/Ubuntu.)

Can you please tell me how to download this wrapper from you? Going to your link in the OP leads to a page with a file folder on it, opening the folder goes to a page with three files on it (a .txt, a .xz, and a .sh). And there appears no way to download those files, right-clicking just attempts to D/L the whole page.

It's an archive & Dropbox is showing you its contents. There should be a "Download" button in the upper right corner - just click that and select "Direct download".

Ok, that downloaded the .tar.xz file. Weird, when I D/L the file by the usual right-click-on-the-link method normally used to D/L anything, once D/L-ed archive manager wouldn't load it (it would give an error).

It opens now. Thanks.

Quick question: .sh files won't execute if they are placed anywhere but my home directory. Placed elsewhere and when right-clicking on the file to give it permission to be executed by anyone it completely ignores me. Thoughts?
