No problem!

On Steam I found the LAA flag prevented me from being able to launch the game, I would typically use a less than moral executable to run it outside of Steam and that fixed my problem. You don't have to worry about modified files being automatically replaced by Steam though, that will only happen when an update is pushed (which isn't going to happen for FNV anymore) or if you verify the cache integrity.
Oh, OK. I had just read that it didn't work being applied manually, and assumed it was automatically verifying the game files, so I never tried it, haha.

The script, by the way, said that I didn't have the ncurses library, but I do have it. So I downloaded the devel. library and the 32bit library for ncurses, and one of them did the trick (i assume the 32bit). Just putting that here in case anyone runs into the same thing.

Edit: It also says that winemenubuilder.exe is missing, but it is also there, installed by the script. Any ideas?

Yes, the Wine version used is 32-bit so it needs 32-bit libraries.

winemenubuilder.exe is part of Wine, the message about it being missing is normal - it's disabled to prevent anything making a mess of your system's menus
Cool, I'm still learning about Wine, but having nice folks explain stuff really helps!
Thank you for the help!
Thanks so much man this is awesome and very well done.
34h in, no crash and great performance, thank you!

Since I can't get FOMM to run on Linux for some reason:
Is there a way to install fomods in your package?
It's specifically about the "Mod Configuration Menu" which I need for the "JSawyer's Ultimate" mod and I can't get it to run when installed manually.

Help would be appreciated.

Edit: It seems as though it has something to do with the load order because DarnUI and Mod Configuration Menu are conflicting. Unfortunately I haven't found a way of organizing the load-order without FOMM either.

I just had a look at FOMM, it installs and runs once but then fails to start again until "$WINEPREFIX/prefix/drive_c/users/<user>/Local Settings/Application Data/FOMM/mscorlib.dll_Url_093c2d9c0d43e367f48efb365ef945c5e93f58bf/user.config" is deleted. In addition it looks like it freezes on quitting (can use ./start.sh run="wineserver -k" to force it to close). It might be possible to get it working properly with some winetricks.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work if you unpack the .fomod & move everything into place/set things up manually. I downloaded & had a quick look at MCM, the documentation includes instructions for manual installation (make sure to start FONV using NVSE)

IIRC the load order works like it does for Oblivion & you should be able to manually set it by setting the timestamps on the .esp files (load order = oldest to newest)... in this case you can use the "touch" command to set them, e.g.

touch -d "2017-09-16 00:00:01" <file1>
touch -d "2017-09-16 00:00:02" <file2>

What I did after installing DarnUI:

1. Extract the contents of "The Mod Configuration Menu.FOMOD" to \Fallout New Vegas\Data\
2. Include The Mod Configuration Menu in your mod list via your launcher.
3b. Open Data\menus\options\start_menu.xml
3c. At the bottom, find </menu> and place <include src="includes_StartMenu.xml"/> before it. (was already there)

No cigar, the option won't show in the menu.

Doesn't your start shortcut do this?

No, by default it starts FONV normally. Instructions for using NVSE are provided in the OP of this thread and in the release notes...

Oh, I totally assumed it would, so that was the problem.
I'm such a noob and overwrought anyway atm, sorry for that.
At least other idiots like me might see this and won't bother you as a result.

After exchanging the "play" argument with "runwine=nvse_loader.exe" it works now, thanks for the hint.

Thank you adamhm for your efforts. Because you made it so easy I bought the game again on gog. The installation worked flawlessly and the game looks - apart from some minor visual glitches - beautiful.

After starting a second quest (I think it was a few minutes after losing the first game of caravan) the game crashed. Does your script incorporate the 4GB addressing patch?

My setup:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Intel Core i5 2500
12 GB DDR 3
Nvidia GTX 1050 4GB
Most of the graphical glitches can be worked around by disabling AA for now. As for the crash, random crashes like that have always happened with these games, even on Windows (seems to be a "feature" of the engine) - just be sure to save often & keep multiple saves.

Also GOG already applied the 4GB patch by default :)
Hello Adamhm and thank you for your efforts.

I have a problem with New Vegas installed through your script.

The game crashes instantly after clicking PLAY in the launcher.

This is what happens in the terminal:

Here the game just crashes.

I'm trying to run the game on:
Kubuntu 17.04 64bit
Core i3 4000M
Intel HD 4600
4gb RAM
It looks like either the game's launcher or the game itself is failing for some reason. You can try starting the game with this command:

env WINEDEBUG="" ./start.sh play

This will stop the start script from silencing Wine's feedback messages & might give more information about what's going on here.

I'd suspect the GPU/graphics drivers though... do you have the latest available kernel and Mesa installed?
