wrshamilton: After installing the resolution mod, I cannot get the screen to scroll in the Radscorpion caves, showing me only the first screen. I'm not totally certain this is a result of that mod, but I had been in the caves previously and had no problem.

that is the bug of the patch, not game. solved here

just unzip the patch to your fallout folder and agree to all what your system has to say to you. after that - start a new game, cause old saves are incompartible with this patch. all the rest you'll get to know when you finish the game.
as simple as that)

sorry if i'm being kind of stupid but what does unzip mean? i know what the folder is but how do i unzip the patch to the folder
I deleted (well, backed up) ddraw.dll to make the resolution patch run smoothly, and I added the game to my Steam games list, since I like to use Steam for launching all my games. However, it seems that the Steam overlay won't work if the ddraw.dll isn't there--the game fails to launch, but works if I disable using the in-game overlay.
Has anybody else had this problem? Replacing ddraw.dll with the one in C:Windowssystem32 doesn't work, and unfortunately you can't set exceptions for using the overlay (I'd like to keep using it for other games).
Edit: Ah, using sfall with its own ddraw.dll makes it work just fine. Of course, now it seems I can't use it with the high-res patch, but enabling middle-clicking and the mousewheel makes it worth it.

that means "unpack the archive"
Well, it looks like I have a new problem with a mod. Although the sfall mod works nicely for me on my XP computer, Fallout won't even start on my Vista laptop.
I have 32-bit Vista Home Premium, and trying to start Fallout using the sfall ddraw.dll throws an error at me: "Could not load DirectX - This program requires Windows 95 with DirectX 3.0a or later or Windows NT version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or greater."
Falloutw.exe defaults to Windows 98 compatability, but trying all the options (including disabling compatability) doesn't seem to help. The game works fine if I get rid of the sfall version of ddraw.dll, but then I lose all the benefits of sfall.
Oddly, Fallout 2 doesn't suffer from this problem.

Same here, runs fine on XP. I assume it's due to DX10.

I've installed the mod for Fallout 1 that allows for use of the middle-clicking but I'm having trouble setting the button to do what I want.
I've played with the ddraw configuration settings and I have been able to get the middle-click to a lot of different things.
I would like to use the middle mouse button to open the "Skillidex."
Anyone know how to get this to work?
Just for clarification, the mod I installed is the Timeslip mod.

I'm also having the same problem in the Radscorpion caves as wrshamilton. Has anyone figured out what is causing this?

Hello to all
3 question for Rysa and the GOG.com Team:
1) Can I run on GOGs Fallout 1 the Italian progect that translate the game in Italian language called "Progetto TIFONE" the file name is "FOita1.0.exe"?
2) I have a copy made years ago of the Fallout1 original game, my original copy was stolen years ago when I was young. I have tryed on that copy with Win XP Professional SP3 on a 22" 16:10 LCD with nVidia 7600GT to run the Fallout1_Resolution_Patch_v1.1 downloaded from the link suggested from Rysa. I still have problems with the black corruption of the image after the game starts in the cave, the screen becomes suddenly black and i can see the level design when the mouse path deleting the black while moving. Than the black suddenly comes again to obscure the monitor. Is there a way to avoid this black problem?
3) If I buy the game again on GOG.com I will have the same "blackening" of the screen after the short introduction video with the old man speaking?
I ll hope to see you answer soon dear Rysa.
If I was not so clear in the text let me know. I am sorry for my english.
Thank yo in advance

So, the High-Res mod link isn't working. Any ideas what's going on with that?

ehm? Hero are yo asking to me that?
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1169
That one above is the weblink for the Resolution mode on the 1st page.
When the page is opened click on the "download" bottom. The file download will start in seconds.
Hope to be helpfull to your ask.
best regards

In case anyone had the same bumps in the road to getting the hi-res mod to work:
If you get it working, but the main menu is tiny, just play the game and the screen will fill with the game.
