I'm a massive Fallout 3 and Fallout Vegas fan on the PS3... Not for the graphics... I love the story lines and retro futuristic theme... There seems to be a battle between the fans of the originals and newer generations of Fallout... I've never played the originals and I'm going to give it a shot... Don't judge before playing... Downloading now... Can't wait!

Any tips, patches or advice for the noobie? :)

Wish us luck! :)
Well, I'd just like to be encouraging because the originals are really great but they require some investment on the player's part. Reading the (rather lengthy) manual will help a lot. Starting out the game can be tough, because you can go anywhere you want but in many of those places you will get killed very quickly. The interface is a bit dated and can be annoying sometimes. But if you can work past these things, the games are very rewarding.

So, don't get discouraged if things are hard at first! Keep at it, and if you need help or advice with specific things don't hesitate to post back.

I hope you enjoy the games!
Cheers for the advice... One tip I'll use which use for most rpg's is 'do not horde'. That need to pick up everything useful or not! That is the reason I gave up on the Elder Scrolls, I would spend hours looking at the ground just picking crap like mushrooms up and searching every barrel... 5 minutes of progression between hours of hording... At least the Fallout serious does not replenish loot... :)

Weaping_Reaper: 'do not horde'.
In the original Fallouts it is very useful to know that you can unload the ammo from your enemies' guns, which weighs a lot less than the guns themselves. Usually it's not worth grabbing the guns but you'll want the ammo.

Got really into it... As I was in The Glow for the Brotherhood I thought I might aswell explore all the levels... Took my Rad X and when I'd find some Radaway I'd take that too... After I explored everything I came to the surface... Tried to fast travel to the Brotherhood... Everytime I tried to leave it would kill me on the first square... Loaded it up just before I left... I had more than 3000 plus rads... I have nothing in my intentory to help... I'm stuck at the glow... I've been only using one save slot... Silly me! lol

Yeah this is a common problem. The thing to realize is that you need to take the Rad-X BEFORE you get to the Glow, and I think each Rad-X only lasts 24 hours, so if you take too long exploring you'll still get irradiated (unless you take more Rad-X before it runs out).

I hope it's not too discouraging if you have to start over though. A lot of the fun in Fallout 1 is replaying the game with different character builds anyway, so you could try a different kind of character.
I looked up a few walkthroughs on the net to see if anything could be done... Appearently I've done what thousands of others have done... A few people thought the idea would be better if you just died when hitting a thousand rather than letting you build up all those rads... Going to die either way but because I didn't know I put a good few hours in exploring the deeper levels... So this time I should stop outside the glow in a desert or where ever just before I get there and pop a few Rad X then travel that last bit to the glow?

I'm going to get caught out a few more times I imagine.... Game play is so different but feels so rewarding.

Was thinking of downloading some patches... Like the kids one? I think I'll plat it through once before any patches though... Like it was intended... Anyway I'm off to start a new game! :P
Don't forget that you need 2 Rad-X for radiation immunity. One just isn't enough (It's possible to survive if you just run and get the holodisk and leave, but if you travel so long you'll want to explore everything.)
With 2 Rad-X you've plenty of time to explore everything, just don't rest or use first aid or doctor or read skill increasing books which takes quite some time or play games.
NPC party members are immune to radiation.

Remember, the Kids patch IS the way it was intended - the UK version of the game removed them.
