Hi. So I finally got that game to work again, which is not easy in Wine.
Now I wonder, which patches/mods are essential?
I'm looking for bug fixes, restored content quality of life, that kind of thing mostly.
Since this game, like all Bethesda games, is terribly flaky I'd like to not overdo it with mods.

Yup, even though Fallout 3 was critically acclaimed it's still a bag full of bugs.

Thanks, I've seen that article, but it's from 2010! I guess there have been some developments in the last 7 years.

Also the one used for handling extra cores and the other one for using more than 2 GB of RAM.

If you're looking for an up-to-date ultimate mod guide of sorts, then this one should do nicely. Although, be prepared to spend a few days setting it up :P

Unofficial Patch is the only "essential" one.

One other I'd recommend would be the.. dont remember the name, but the one that makes traveling merchants "essential" or unkillable. If you fail to notice them when they're nearby, they'll most likely die to some ghouls or something.

And the nexus mod manager to install them.

Unofficial patch is ok, but causes random crashes for some. If you use the unofficial patch, just use the error corrections version it doesn't have the crashing issue. All you need todo is the multicore threading fix to get it to run properly on GOG. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21888/?. Use the gog setup. With that you don't need stutter remover, the unofficial patch or anything like that, just the ini fix when using the GOG version.
