Hi!

So I just got Fallout 1,2 and Tactics. Currently I have only tried to run Fallout 2 but when I do I get the strangest color bug when starting it (see image).

Anyone that have had a similar problem and knows a solution? Thanks.

Os?

Windows? Mac? Linux? Do you have DirectX 9 installed?
Installing the high resolution patch may help with that.

Its old game,2d game.
so if you run vista/win7 just put this game ( and other old games)in compatibility mode(win98/xp) and kill explorer.exe with task manager. ;)
Same problem here. Windows 7 64-bit.

Please don't recommend compatibility mode, already tried it.
Also tried instaliing unofficial patch, alt+tabing and screen resolution trick.

EDIT: Found a solution on Interplay forum.
You have to modify ddraw.ini in your F2 directory. Under [Graphics] just change Mode=0 to Mode=4.
That's it.

Which would have been solved by installing the resolution patch or restoration pack..

Except doing that makes the game appear more cruddy. There are better fixes out there, like the hi-res patches or this blog entry that explains why old games like Fallout do this, along with providing solutions.

OMG... for the second time - I already tried installing the patch.
If it works for you that's great, but It doesn't fix the problem for me.

Then you aren't installing it correctly or the correct patch or using the correct settings. Resolution mods specifically fix that issue is why people always bring them up.

But if you want the most BASIC way of fixing your colors open up your task manager and KILL explorer.exe
start it up again when you are done

You could also change your direct draw settings to a different mode and change your screen resolution.

Seriously, WTF is wrong with you?

I am installing patch correctly.
I've tried automatic install.
I've tried manual install.
I can change to higher resolution in game.
But the color problem stays!

And AGAIN - I tried all the provided solutions. Can't you read?
And yes, that includes killing explorer.exe.
And yes, that includes killing it manually in task manager .
And yes, that includes killing it with a script.
IT. DOES. NOT. WORK. FOR. ME.
And I suppose you HAVE changed your settings back and installed the LATEST version of sfall and the unofficial patch updated around July 2013?

If you wanted help you would have gone to options and shown us your screen settings without freaking out.

AND a screen shot of your main menu so we can see YOUR version number.

That awkward moment when I realise the person I'm arguing with have never even seen the problem I'm talking about.
