I've had problems on my HP Windows 8 laptop and Fallout 1 for sometime after when was free but truthfully I don't know why a game this old would make my computer bug out of the game. Example: Buying a radio, radar, and the rad field finder at the same time in The Hub, General Store . You guys would be awesome if you could help.

Install and add DirectX9 to your system, as Windows 8 comes with DirectX11, which misses older components from version 9.

Now I'd install an unoffical patch because Fallout was pretty bugged then and has been heavily patched by the community. But you have to start a new game! Old savegames won't work.

This pack is widely used and still maintained by the creators. I used it as well.

If you still experience problems, run the game in compatibility mode for Vista or Win7 and with administrator rights.
