Hi everyone,
there is this mutant camp/military base in Fallout 1 with the green and red force fields that you have to bypass to proceed at level 3 (I think). There are a number of solutions, but non of them seem to work:
1. Hack (Science) the non-MachIV-Computer on level 1: Supposedly, half of the force fields are disabled - but in fact, nothing happens
2. Use a radio on this computer to be able to remotely toggle force fields: No idea how to do this, since there is only 1 "use" option for the radio which leads to the dialogue with the base commander or someone and later to "There is only static on the radio." Is there any other way of using stuff that I am unaware of?
3. Use tools on force field emitters: Says that I temporarily disabled the force field, and I am now able to shoot through, but not _walk_ through. (gnnnn.)
4. Use lockpick on elevator that says "out of order" in level 3: does nothing here, maybe after a million times?
5. Use unofficial 1.34 update: Corrupts my save games
Does anyone know more solutions or how any of the above does really work? It's a great game, but I don't really feel like applying the update and starting over...
Cheers,
Olav

Use a radio on the computer and it should be able to turn them on and off.
Thanks for the reply.
From your link: "Finally, you may use your radio on it to jury rig a remote control to turn the yellow force fields on and off."
Yes, well, but how exactly do you do that? Use Radio via quick slot? No. Use radio in inventory? No. Use/Science/Repair on computer? No. Sorry, but I don't get it. :-)

This part was poorly done IMO, since it requires you to use a seldom-used, and never explained function. You need to select the computer, go to the backpack icon, and then click the radio. It makes what should be a straightforward puzzle impossible if you don't know how to use the interface to the fullest extent.
Yeah, sorry 'bout that.. Just this tiny human error with assuming people just know.. But yes, click computer, choose backpack icon and then the radio.
FYI: when the two above posters say "click" the computer, they really mean "right-click and hold" to get the drop down menu where you can select the backpack icon.
Oh, I see. Excellent - thank you all!
I hate red force fields. always hit me and my friends and poor cute doggy. :(
Wish if can able to disable red forcefields than yellow. its really pissed me off about that red forcefields.
for me, I just dropped some dynamite near the door and walked away until it blew. No more door. Plastic explosives also work, and if you can get one of those big boys next to a door, a grenade will do the job.
