I bought Fallout 1 and 2 today, and though Fallout 2 runs fine, Fallout 1 isn't so friendly.
Because it's such an old game, i'm having trouble describing it, but it's like if you tried to run a game that was too much for your machine-the framerate is slow, the mouse is very jittery. Animations run slowly as well. The two opening movies are fine, and the music runs at the correct speed. Anyone have a solution, or having this issue as well?

Try renaming ddraw.dll to something else (you can delete it, too, but better safe than sorry). The game will then default to using the built-in Windows version of ddraw.dll. If that doesn't solve the lag, Timeslip's sfall mod may also help with this.
Thanks a lot-renaming directdraw did it for me.
To Sprockets-Yes, actually, I tried the High Res mod last night, hoping it might solve my problem. Like my computer thought it was too good for this.
Thanks! That did it for me too. Runs much better.

NICE! Thanks, I was having the same problem, and nixing the draw.dll fixed it. I'd given up playing F1 because it was so slow. If this isn't in the FAQ thread, it should be.
Also, *bump*
Ahhh, much better. I was having the same problem as well but I had assumed it was because I'm playing on a really old machine (No better place than GoG for GoPCs). I second the vote to include this in the mods list at the top of the forum.
I was having the same problem and was checking before I asked. I got rid of the ddraw.dll file and it seems to be a lot better! Thanks for the tip.
If this is a consistent issue, wouldn't the "fix" be that a GOG member would rebuild the package, but with the ddraw.dll file renamed to something else (perhaps ddraw.dll.original or something)?
Renaming the ddraw file worked for me, thanks 404.
Fixed it for me too!
same here, thanks!
Fixed it too for me. Although the colors were wrong until I switched to 16bit.

Me too. Thanks guys!
Same problem with slow performance. The renaming of the ddraw.dll did it - now it works fluently - but with another problem coming up: By using 16bit-depth, the game looks much inferior. Colors are very bright generally and you can see a ugly banding-effect... is there no way to play it in 32bit with a proper performance?
