I just started Fallout for the first time, and I've been reading about some of the mods. One of the ones I am interested in is the higher resolution mod. But from what I've read, it has some bugs. I'm just wondering if it's worth it? I've heard that it messes up certain locations to where you can't even move, and I also heard it made someone else's save files unable to load. So to people who use it, is it worth it? It almost sounds like more trouble than it's worth.
I finished the whole Fallout 1 with the resolution mod without any problems.I used the configuration that is written by me in the FAQ - no problems or bugs whatsoever.
The only "bugs" I encountered in a full playthrough of the game including all side quests, were some of the edges of the some of the maps were slightly extended past what they would normally be without the high resolution mod, so there were some patches of black, where they hadn't placed anything... because you wouldn't normally see it.
I would highly recommend this mod if only to extend what you can see without scrolling around. I've always felt the view was a little limited in both of the original Fallouts...

I don't like the mod. It's annoying. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really have a big issue with the graphics.
I've yet to encounter any problems with the mod.
I didn't like it either. Whatever resolution I tried, from 1680x1050 to 1024x768 it made the game choppy. This is on a 2.4GHz AMD 64 X2, 2GB System RAM and GeForce GTX 260 896MB RAM.
I played all the way through FO1 and FO2 with high res mods, with no problems.

Same for me. Highest playable res is 800x600 on Core 2 Duo @3.2 GHz :(
I tried res mod for Fallout 2, didn't like it. I had no frame rate issues but I really didn't like how structural integrity of the world looked outside those original resolution boundaries.
I second the notion that unless you have a really big issue with the original resolution, you have no reason to resort to using this mod.

I may try it again and see what 800x600 looks like, 1024x768 was the lowest res I tried when I last used it.

Also try switching to 16 bit mode, seems like it make a huge difference for me. "seems" because I tried so many options that I'm not quite sure what caused what :)
