I seem to be having a problem with crashing, after moving between the different sections of Junktown. I can switch sections a couple of times and then BAM, I get black screen and an error notification. End up having to close Fallout with task manager (WinXP).
Anyone else having this problem?

What does the error message say?

I've been having the same issue, the first time was an out of memory issue. Now whenever I try to cross back into the first board of Junktown it crashes to desktop.
Using XP home, with the High Res Mod, Fallout NPC Mod v3.4 English version,

Are you getting this problem without the mods? I have heard a few problems caused by the high res mod. If it is a memory issue (please quote the error so I can verify which one it is) it is either 1) You need more RAM or 2) (more likely) you are out of virtual memory

Got the same issues once so far. No mods, nothing customized.

Kondor: What does the error message say?

All I get is something like, "There has been an exception in fallout.exe" The error gives the full file path to the .exe. I'm using the high-res mod and TeamX 1.3.3 patch. After installing the patch it fixed the Junktown error, but now I get the same one in Shady Sands when I try to complete the Rescue Tandi quest.
Why would you want to complete rescue tandi? you can keep her in your party forever. You'll get far more exp with her than without her.
eh, it's crashing for me everywhere now.
My Fallout (no mods --- plain vanilla GOG Fallout 1 on XP Home SP3 with 4GB RAM and a quadcore proc) was fine until about 45 minutes ago. Since then, it's crashed at least 6 times, all in Junktown, and (annoyingly) most of those crashes were when I was trying to save my progress. Each time, it exits to desktop with a message something like "the application tried to access memory at xxx:xxx". I have to kill it with Task Manager.
Any suggestions?

did you enter combat and then save? that's been known to do that.

No --- none of the crashes happened during combat.
Mine crashes every time I enter the second underground map in the necropolis after I fixed the waterpump. I tried entering the map from several different entrances. I went back to an older save game and I can enter the map just fine. I might consider redoing everything from that save game but I am afraid it is a bug since the guy who gives you the quest to fix the pump is on this crashing map. I am not using any mods and I get the same unable to access memory error. I also tried copying backups of all the game files.

This happened to me as well.. No mods, nothing. Just the 1.2 ver that came off GOG. I was in junktown prison, tried to save, crashed the game, corrupted my one and only save, and ruined my night..

I'm not sure I even wanna play anymore.. yatta yatta about whining, whatever.. but this game is 13 years old, I would have think it would be capable of not having this sort of a meltdown, especially since I paid money and it says it's WIN7 ready. It's not. It's gonna crash and ruin your save at some point.

I'll take it all back when I get my save back :(

edit: just gonna uninstall and reinstall another day. Read too many threads here that just threw up their hands and said "don't do this" or "did you ever do that" or "save a lot, this game crashes". I don't understand how the community can be satisfied with this.. Whatevs..

This is happening to me also. I'll probably send Support a message, eventually. Rescued Tandi, went to Junktown, crash.
