First time posting on these forums, so I'll try my best and give the most details currently available.

Well, I've had this happen quite a while ago. Got the fallout freebie a while ago, and decided to try it. It was REALLY good, except for well, you know, the bugs. I endured them, waited until my save finished (Which was never, it was rarely ever that pressing the Windows button would somehow minimize Fallout and finish the saving). Thing is, the crashes would freeze up and slow down my computer, forcing me to restart my computer and ending up with a corrupted save. Of course, it would happen the next day, then the next, ect. I had realized at the time that it'd be a pattern of happening during at least an hour or longer continuous playing. Until, well...my game crashed pretty soon in. I'd have to say, about 10 minutes? Eventually, I got used to it. I'm used to my computer being slow and crashing a lot. Of course not normal, it's usually a game bug or a ram issue but this is something more. I'd expect my computer to be able to play this game without it crashing at all. I have tried looking up solutions, but found none other than fallout 3 and new vegas solutions, that actually suggested mods or stuff that weren't (probably) even a real thing back then. This problem has happened in Fallout 2 as well, and I'm so far disappointed in these two games. Got pretty far in Fallout 2, but it decided to take about a full day out of my hands. Well, okay, more like 8 hours but still. I'd like to note, I can acknowledge that it MAY be a ram issue, or at least an issue with my computer, but I want to make sure. I also have read on some sites that there's a patch, but I thought this site would already have it in the game pre-installed. If not, that must be it.

That's really it. Sorry it was so long. If there's any grammar and/or spelling issues, please tell me so others can understand what I'm asking. I can speak good English, I just type fast.
This generally happens when you are not running the game Administrator Mode. The game will not have permission to create/overwrite/access save game files.

At least this is what I can think of, let me know if it works.
I tried playing it in Administrator, which it never crashed for the first hour. Admittedly, the game crashed from a graphical error and I think I forgot to restart the game in administrator. Short story; Game got the freezing-during-saving but this time is only lasted a short while and not permanently. I'm going to spend all of tomorrow trying to play the game in administrator, but otherwise, can someone suggest another reason why it might be freezing during saving?
Playing the game in administrator mode still made the game crash. I'm out of ideas.

If your computer is prone to crashing in other scenarios than playing Fallout, I would take a second look at those issues, since Fallout 1 & 2 never behave THAT bad on a fully functioning system.

My advice, apart from cleaning up on the system and making sure that drivers are up to date, is installing the unofficial patches. The fixes carried out by GOG are only minor.

The first 4 steps here should fix the universal issues, at least.
I installed the Unofficial patch. Will download the Sfall 2.13 later today. The high resolution patch isn't there anymore. I'll go and see if this works.
Installing the unofficial patch for fallout 2 seems to have fixed the problem!

Thank you everyone who helped.
