Shoelip: Actually, Blizzard has Activision (their owners) breathing down their necks.
Nah, I don´t really think that´s true. If Bobby "Satanworshipper" Kotick was really breathing down Blizzards neck, we would have seen Starcraft 54 by now. And Blizzard developers would be fired by the hundreds.

@OP. You do sound kinda like a troll, must admit. I mean, 1920x1080 will still require you to have another monitor. Not to mention the fact that anyone could have built a way more powerful gaming rig for less money. A 335GT is a simple midrange laptop card, hell, my 9800GTX+ is way more powerful than that, and it's way older too. Seriously, next time you try to impress someone with your specs, get a good gaming rig ;)

He's a business man. Not Satan. If he fired everyone and did everything in his power to ruin Blizzard's reputation he'd lose much of the power they hold over their cul- fans, and the guaranteed monies they provide. Besides, if it's not Activision then Blizzard is doing all this latest bullshit of their own volition, which is even worse.

Just completed the game today. I'm upset how abruptly it ended! I wanted to play more! Looks like I'm buying Fallout 2 on payday this week. Anyway, overall I'm willing to give the original Fallout a 8/10. It was actually a good game with a captivating story, just was alil too short for my expectations. Does Fallout 2 continue directly where Fallout ends, or a whole new story altogether?

Oh, as for my gaming rig, the Alienware M11x, I'm not sure why people keep bashing it. Its much cooler than the XBOX 360 and I have no regrets buying the unit. I understand that I have a slower Core i7 than the desktops out there, but the whole point of the unit is that it is extremely portable. Packing up a XBOX 360 and a LCD TV to go play at a LAN party is just stupid. Anyway, I'm very happy with my PC purchase and it saddens me to know that other PC gamers out there are no different from console gamers, just as quick to grief you as well. :-(

As for the whole "Troll" thing, which I finally got around to looking up by the way. *LOL* A person is considered a "Troll" if they have an opinion? Wow, it reminds me of bad politics really. I'm racist, because I disagree with President Obama. I hate black people! Umm... seriously? I freakin' voted for the man!!! I wanted to see change from Bush's policy. I wanted to see what he could bring to the table to change our great country for the better. Sadly, as of current, he failed to deliver, just as Bush did. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is why label someone as a "Troll" or "Racist" if they have a different opinion than you? It breaks my heart to know how much lack of compassion there is out there from one human to another.

With that said, I guess I'm signing off to play Modern Warfare 2 on my low-end crap M11x computer. I'll post again when I get a chance to play Fallout 2 later on this week.

-Troll, out! <--- *LOL* I just had to do that!. :-D

P.S.

I wanted to share this with you guys/gals. This video is just insane!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzSOKi_t5fg

(A speed run of Fallout. Entire game beaten in like 10 minutes!!!)

One word..... Amazing. :-D

Im sorry, but your first post is textbook troll. Why?

1. You basically bashed an old classic because its not up to todays graphic standards.
2. You did it on a forum where everyone worships the game.
3. You generalized your opinion.
4. You supported and compared todays games with the classics.
5. You didnt bother to check out what you were buying.

But you know what? None of that matters now, because you saw the light so to speak :)
I hope youll enjoy the sequel.

I dunno, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. At any rate, I'm excited to purchase Fallout 2 and see where the story goes. For these games being older, they sure can be addicting. I put at very least 20~30 hrs into Fallout. I might replay through again while Im waiting to purchase Fallout 2. I wonder how Fallout Tactics is. It says in the description that you play as a Brotherhood of Steel initiate. Interesting twist instead of playing as a vault dweller. I might buy Fallout Tactics as well, but for sure I wanna play Fallout 2 first! :-)

Fallout 2 picks up the story some 80 years later, but there are plenty of references to the first installment. It also has a much more content than the first one, after all these years and at least 10 finished games later, I'm still finding new things and options I didn't explore before. Make sure you apply the children patch to the GOG version to have a full experience.

Some people don't like the initial tribal setting, the many pop culture references, and that the atmosphere is less dark and hopeless, but I love it as it is, you have to see and decide for yourself.

And you'll be happy to know that there is an option to keep playing after you've finished the game, with little surprises here and there.

Fallout Tactics is a whole different game though, as the title suggests, it's a pure tactical combat game where you control a whole squad, with a SPECIAL system which feels a bit forced and twisted at times. It also departs from the true Fallout atmosphere with robots, beastmasters and hairy deathclaws. If you take it for what it is though, it can be quite a good and fun game.

Whiskey_Tan9o: I wasted $5.99 on this "good old game".
You probably wasted some $59.90 on Fallout 3 Last Vegas or the crashy DLCs, and you whine about $5.99 for an old game?

As you seem to compare graphics alone; what did you expect when you went to a page called Good Old Games with such prices?

Thanks for the information! I get paid tomorrow, I'm definitely going to pick up both Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. I can't wait to see how much new content Interplay added to the second installment of the game. The first one was amazing all the way upto the very end, then it was a rather abrupt ending. Overall it was a great game. I really shouldn't have judged a game only 10 minutes of playing it in the begining. There is so much more it offers once you give it a chance and become deeply invested in the story. :-)

As for Fallout: New Vegas, yeah... I wasted $59.99 on a buggy piece of crap. It has so many glitches/crashes it's almost unplayable. I found I have to save very often and hope I don't fall through the floor, before I'm able to get through doors in the game. Its terrible in it's current build. Bethesda/Obsidian really dropped the ball on launching New Vegas. It needed much more development and QA time without a doubt. I just hope they start releasing some patches and title updates soon. The game is a heap of garbage right now. :-(

Whiskey_Tan9o: Who wants to play a top down RTS/RPG game anymore these days?
avatar
MountainMan: Me, for one. I'm loving the fact that GOG is releasing these old school classics since I missed a lot of them the first time around. I've found that the older I've gotten, the more I appreciate this style of game.
Yeah I'm feeling the same way. You are so true. :)

I personally find Fallout 3's interface the most frustrating part (if you set aside all the other flaws it might have). Coming from the original Fallouts, I'm a completionist, I explore every bit of a map, look under every rock, open every drawer and locker hoping I would find some useful bits (which I occasionally do). Playing an RPG in first person is just a pain for me, I always feel the urge to look through the zillions of polygons, moving every burnt book to see if there is a stimpack under there, and it just takes ages to complete. Where as in the originals, after a while you recognise every clickable part of the map, if there is something on the ground, it's highlighted when you mouse over it, and it just looks cleaner to me. It's just my opinion though.

One essential update to the interface in FO2 is the ability to make your companions to move out of the way. There is nothing more frustrating than they blindly following you and getting blocked by one of them in a corner or a small room. The only option you had in FO1 is to load a save or to shoot them. In FO2, you can click and hold to make them move, yay!

Fenixp: Quite simply, GoG doesn't yet have a deal with Bethseda. I would be after their old games myself, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't appreciate newer titles as well: It doesn't seem to be too realistic at the moment thou.
I seem to recall Bethesda was distributing Arena and Daggerfall for free from their site.

Here is a link

Arena and Daggerfall
I'm about 4 hours into Fallout 2 and I'm lovin' it!!! Its so much better than the original Fallout. I already posted my review for the game. :-D

"Bethesda/Obsidian totally ripped this game off with Fallout: New Vegas. What total crap! I mean Fallout 3 was an all original creation/reimagining of the Fallout series, then they go and make New Vegas and rip everything off from Fallout 2. I know that some Obsidian employees were former employees of Black Isle Studios, but still... they should be ashamed of themselves for ripping this game off. I mean, they snagged everything! The NCR, the tribal atmosphere, geckos, etc... Shame on you Bethesda and Obsidian!

Now as for this game, I have just begun to play and I'm about 4 hours in... So far this game is a perfect 5/5! There has been many improvements made from the original Fallout! I can highly recommend this game to any fans of the Fallout universe or for new to the series players out there like myself. I won't lie, I first learned of the Fallout universe from Bethesda with the launch of Fallout 3. Since then, I've found myself to be addicted to this universe.

I have my fingers crossed in hopes of a port to the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. Devs out there, please make this happen ASAMFP!!! :-D"

Thats my review of the game as of current. *LOL* Anyway, I'm off to play for a couple more hours. I can't wait to see what else Black Isle Studios changed or added to Fallout 2! Oh, if anyone has any recommendations on a character I wanna build, please post what skills/perks I should select at character creation.

Character desired: Stealthy ninja, silent melee kills capable, and smooth with the ladies!

If anyone has any advice, please post. Thanks in advance. :-)

Explore EVRYTHING before completing the game for the first time. I wish i did that and not on my fourth/sixth walkthrough...
After completing the Temple of Trails, if you have an extreme amount of patience, you can make it all the way down to New San Francisco to complete a Brotherhood quest and get power armor.

Here's how to do it: On the world map, save your game every few steps and reload when you encounter an enemy. This is why it takes an extreme amount of patience.

After you complete the quest, you will be pushed immediately to Lv. 8. And then use the same strategy to return to Arroyo. The rest of the game will be incredibly easy: "You were critically hit for no damage. The bruise will make great conversation at parties, but that's about it."
