Yeah, I think it's a great game given the compromises Obsidian were forced to make by Bethesda to cater to FO3 fans (like using that horrible engine, facefx and having to dumb down the stats from the original SPECIAL). There are some mods that fix some of the presentation issues (Vegas itself having to be divided up because of console memory limits for example).

Eh, there's a disc version, and like nearly every other game the DRM is cracked.

Believe me, I very seriously considered it. But since I am also a modder for other Bethesda games I didn't want to risk being kicked off all the reputable modding sites for Piracy.

Plus I don't think I could really enjoy the game know what I had to do to get it.

What? Why would you lie? Unless you suffer from severe tics, making you shout out "I PIRATED A GAME!" whenever you're nervous, I don't see why you'd ever have to lie. "Did you pirate this game?" is a bit of a random question to pose to someone for no reason.

Especially if you've already bought the game, regardless.

As for what you "had to do to get it"; You make it sound like you'd have to shiv a man to prove your loyalty to the pirates.

I used to frequently post in the "I hate Steam" threads.Eventually I'd say something stupid like "I have never had Steam on my machine and I never will!" which would look suspicious if I also had made a lot of New Vegas and Skyrim mods and might attract moderator attention. Even if I legally bought the game, using a No Steam crack will get me kicked off both the Bethsoft forums and the Fallout Nexus. I have seen it happen to many others, both those sites have strict zero tolerance rules. It is not like on the GOG forums where people admit to cracking and outright pirating games all the time. I would feel terrible if an errant comment on an off topic forum caused me to get banned and all my mods taken down as a result. So I chose to abstain rather than try to live the lies of either "Yes I hate Steam but made exceptions for these games" or "I used to hate Steam but now that I use it I will never speak of it again" I'm sure there are others that can and have enjoyed playing and even modding games this way, but I'm not one of them.

I've recently played through the game again almost two years after I beat it the first time. Back then, I wasn't really that impressed with it for some reason.

Now it's one of my favorite games. Something just clicked with me for some reason when I played it again. Not sure what it was. Plus it's also the reason why I went to this site, to buy and play the original Fallout, of which I'm currently playing through for the first time.

There are some good Nexus mods that improve visual fidelity and restore some cut content (that includes the Strip\Freeside minus the barriers\split zones, and re-integrated dialogue). I forgot most of the names but Freeside Open is one of them.

Thanks, but I'm fine with what I have. Besides, even if I wanted those mods, I can't get them. I play the 360 version of the game.

Can't believe people here are actually advocating stealing FONV. Pathetic.

It's an absolutely terrific game. I much prefer it to the general dullness of Fallout 3.
