Just bought this game, doesn't work at all, just crashes, even when trying to go into setup it crashes, can't find any fixes for it anywhere, running on windows 8.1, someone know a fix? you'd expect games on this site to actually work, they shouldn't be allowed to sell a broken game, not all of us have a spare pc with windows 95 installed.

I have the same problem on Mac OS X. I hope someone from GOG Support reads this and provides some feedback.

I have a 2GB Nvidia GT750M on a 2013 Macbook Pro. At first I got a X11 error when I tried to start the game. I went and downloaded the latest XQuartz but it still crashes on startup with another error - Unhandled exception: illegal instruction in 32-bit code (0x91a00ce6).

How'd you get it working? I'm currently using a GTX960 but I don't think that should be a problem

I still don't know what the problem is. It works on all my machines. Windows 8.1, Nvidia, Intel graphics... This is not helpful, but neither is the lack of documentation beyond "it doesn't work".

Well the game does literally just crash whenever I launch it with the common 'program has stopped working' crash so I can't give you anything else but the fact of the matter is, how did you get it to work? or has it always just constantly worked for you no matter what somehow and you're just very lucky?

Yes, for me it "just worked". I didn't change a single thing or encountered any issue I'm afraid.

Same problem for me on Windows 7. Launching the game crashes it immediately. Trying to run Setup from the Launcher results in an error message: "DirectDraw Enumeration failed"


Edit Possible fixes:

- In your graphics card settings, make sure "Prefered refresh rate" for Expendable is at "Use 3D application setting" not "Highest available"

- Set compatibility mode for Expendable.exe and go.exe to Windows XP SP3 or earlier

- Make sure V-sync is turned on in the setup menu


These three options combined made the game playable on my Windows 7 computer.

If your computer has 2 or more cores it will likely crash after level loading.

To avoid this create a link to go.exe then edit its property.

Make sure that "-nocputest" is added to "destination" .

I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 630 and I cannot find the "Prefered refresh rate" setting in the Nvidia Control Panel. Can you please tell me how to find it.
The shortcut I created does not have a "Destination" property. I have tried putting "- nocputest" in the "Target" property, but that does not help.

Open your Nvidia Control Panel. Near the top of the list of the left side of the panel should be the "Manage 3D Settings" option. Select that.

Then in the window that appears, change from the Global Settings tab to the Program Settings tab.

Now you need to click on the "Add" button to add Expendable to the list. It will open a window with your most recently used applications. If Expendable does not appear in the list, click on "Browse" at the bottom and go to whichever folder the game is installed in. By default it should be C:\GOG Games\Expendable and select Expendable.exe.

Now it should be loaded in the Nvidia settings panel. The "Preferred Refresh Rate" option should be about halfway down the list. Make sure the selected option is "Application Controlled." Then Apply and close the panel.

Just create a shortcut to desktop,right click, properties, the destination patch is right there after the quotation marks leave a space and type -nocputest and simply always start with that shortcut. Worked like a charm for me after using the environment mapped bump mapping patch to get the cool water effects.
