P.S. I was wrong. GOG was right about the current patch version actually being 1.01. The 1.1 version I thought I was seeing appears to be a common typo for the 1.01 patch.
(original posting below)
Dear GOG:
You have the same problem that Steam's release does - You're UNPATCHED!
The 1.1 patch really is important to make this game "play nice" with others.
Two questions:
1. Will the GOG release be updated?
2. Is the available 1.1 patch (google for it) functional with the GOG release?
P.S. It's a great game and EXACTLY the kind of stuff GOG will succeed with.

I've never heard of this one.. Looks fun, but I wanna know if the bugs Wiki notes are still a problem in this release:
Upon release, Evil Genius was praised for its originality and engrossing content; however, the game also contained many bugs of varying severity. Most of these bugs, such as random crashes and the notoriously poorly titled "Load Save" screen, were fixed in an official patch soon after the release of the game. Some small bugs and minor character and object problems still exist, however. Some bugs include:
-Several objects cannot be researched properly.
-Henchman code is bugged, resulting in henchman having negative effects when conducting Acts of Infamy.
-Each Evil Genius has a benefit to playing as them. Maximillian's should be 90% off research costs. This however, does not affect gameplay and the benefit never becomes active.
An unofficial patch has been made to remove some bugs which were not fixed in the official patch, as well as other gameplay modifications.
Other criticisms included repetitive gameplay which could be rather slow at times, and lack of player control and interactivity with regards to minions and several gameplay events.

I suppose the emboldened part is what whollymindless is referring to...?
I hope this game is as fun as it looks...
EDIT: And we need a "preview post" function.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no patch 1.1 - only existing patch is 1.01, which is applied to our version.

So will the 1.1 unofficial patch work with the gog.com version?
I've owned this game for a long time and never used any patch beyond the official 1.01. I've never encountered any bugs that significantly affected the game at all, and yes, it is as fun as it looks :)

You can try - it should :) This patch just modify some of the stats and default properties:
I.e.
Hiding time on world dominition map is now 10mins.
Only sentry guns can be built in building, not disguised ones.
Totem pool is only transferable once complete, since it cant be put together on second island.
Fire Extinguisher placable in the hotel.
Security Cameras and speakers can be built in Hotel.

Thanks for following up. I was really sure that you guys would have gotten it right (you don't screw this kind of stuff up.)
I'll have to do some more research.
Thanks for being awesome and getting this to us!

you got lucky, then.
even with the latest patch applied, my game would always get corrupted by the second island.
i'd be willing to repurchase if GOG's fixed this?
The 1.01 patch did solve a large number of save problems and corruption and is the only version I've played. Honestly, I wasn't even aware of an unofficial patch as identified by GOG above.
Long before I lost saves or corrupted them, I've lost the game so badly I've had to restart. (grin)
For what it's worth, I bought and downloaded the GOG version of the game today and have been playing it for about three hours with the unofficial 1.1 patch applied. It seems to be working flawlessly!

So, what kind of mileage are you getting? Any crashes so far?
Also, does it return the CD check protection?

I still haven't encountered a single crash, and the game runs the same as before; no CD check required.
The unofficial 1.1 patch I downloaded off of FilePlanet seems to make the game require a CD for me. Ergo; I can't play the game with that installed. Not sure if there's a way around that, but figured I'd throw that in as an FYI for new readers.

Weird. Have you used it with GoG version? Since I've been running my unofficial patch with GoG just fine.

It might be worth posting where you got your unofficial patch from in case the one at FilePlanet is slightly different and puts the CD check back in.
