I don't mind DLC in general, but it feels a bit insulting to release it and advertise it on the menu page when the game is still in early access. As someone that bought this the first day it was available on GOG, it just feels a bit insulting really - it's not like the game was particularly cheap for something that's clearly unfinished and I was expecting development time to go into finishing the game rather than selling extras before it's even halfway done.

It would have been a nice reward for early backers who bought the game as soon as it came out to get this included but I guess money is tight these days.

100% Agree, when I saw for first, I thought it is a joke like in Wastelands 2, but no.
What a shame, I was really interested in the game - devs, please try not to turn into greedy EA /Bethesda, you just instantly lost a customer who would have happily pay dounble for this game WHITOUT "DLC"s :-)
anyway, good luck with your business model in the RPG sector :-)
I couldn't believe it too. As soon as I started making my first charachter, I thought that it will be nice when they add more charachter portraits.
Then I saw the dlc and lost all of my enthusiasm for this game and instantly regreted buying it. It is a shame!

I mean it's supporter” type “DLC”. Though I'm not sure what the point is given it's in-dev/EA already.

We promise these items for Kickstarter backers, and the best way to deliver it to them via DLC keys. And some of our players ask us about add these items for all who still want to support us.
I was looking at this game for some time now, but yeah, saw the "DLC" and said nope, not now, not ever am I pulling the trigger on this game.

You could have sent keys or special editions of the game to your Kickstarter backers, but selling it now in Early Access is scummy as hell.
I've been watching this game, and I'm pretty anti-DLC, period..

But try and have a little perspective.

This was something kickstarter backers already earned, development time was already devoted to it regardless. Then customers started asking (according to Developer) if they could also have the chance to purchase said items.

This is not the same thing as launching a game and making wholly new content and then charging everybody for it before the game is even finished.

Wish people would use their brains more.
But you're talking about DLC for additional portraits. You know, drawn pictures of the character? That does not deserve a DLC, or even a paid DLC at that. That, my friend, should simply be an update to the game in its entirety with no attachments involved. I'm sure more pictures are what the Kickers wanted, but I don't believe they thought more PICTURES would be their reward.

You want to make something of worth to those Supporters and Kickbackers? Put some effort into their reward(s). They deserve that much.

But don't go waving something that is easily integrated into your product and slap on a price tag.

The Run and Gun Kit, sure..
The Sound Track, common..
Character Portraits? Five bucks? Come on now...

If you give away for free what you advertised during the campaign as exclusive for backers, then you betray the backers.

Read it all, not half of it, friend. But no, thats the problem. What I suggested was to make those exclusives something thats well thought out. Something worth the time. Advertise something more then just avatar pictures. Advertise more then just a sound track. Advertise more then what is easily obtainable, or executable.

As for you, I never wrote to give anything away for free in my post.

I'll say it again: Put effort into the Exclusive Rewards that you Advertise for your BACKERS.

I read every word quite carefully. How closely did you read @OP's threadstarter? How closely did you read the developer's response?

The exclusive in question here was not just pictures, so what you say does not even make sense. Anyhow, when a developer crafts an exclusive for a KS, he does so purely for marketing reasons. If the KS is successful, then maybe the design was ok, right? If non-backers later complain that they can't get the exclusives, then that's another sign that the design of the exclusive was pretty good.
