Hello, I've been having issues with trying to play this game but when I get to the menu screen my monitors warning pops up saying that the optimal resolution is 1920 * 1080 60Hz

When I go into the menu I switch the resolution and tested out a few of the other video settings but nothing works. Soon after my monitor goes black and I have to soft boot my system. My only thoughts concerning this issue pertains to the 60Hz not being an option in the game. I've tried altering the settings file in the game folder, altering compatibility and running as an administrator. I disabled my ATI's Catalyst A.I. and dropped all settings to minimum. No luck.

I love this game with a passion and not being able to play it is depressing.

System specs:

Windows Vista Ultimate x86 (32)
AMD Phenom II X2 925 2.80 GHz
2 GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 (I enabled and disabled crossfire)
Samsung HD LCD Monitor Widescreen 1920 * 1080 maximum resolution.

I've been messing around trying to resolve this issue myself. I'm running it on an XP based system, but it appears to be an issue with the monitor drivers for flatscreens so will probably affect many people that use TFT screens, no matter the OS or other system specs.

I would stay clear of those 'force widescreen mode' type software utilities, i've tried two and both seem to get picked up as some sort of malware.

I have found a work around, two really.

1. When i select to run the game in compatability mode 'Windows 98/ Windows ME' the 'Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1920x1200 60Hz' monitor message does not show. BUT on my system the game sometimes 'sticks' in both the dialogue files(like a scratched record) in the game video's and voice instructions and in the game play. So for me this option on my system is no good, but others might find it works for them in removing those monitor warnings on a TFT?

2. In the game settings select:

A. Direct3D Hardware TnL - stops mouse trail effects in game play screen.
B. Screen Resolution as high as your TFT can display/same as your desktop resolution

On my monitor i have an 'auto adjustment' button, clicking this removes the monitor warning but the screen will still blank out after a period of time, in which case i use another button that switches between an analog and digital signal. Doing this restores the game screen, then i can click 'auto adjust' again to get rid of the monitior warning pop up.

Once you are past any game introduction screens(like the mission description screens) and menu and option screens the TFT monitor warning pop-up goes away, so during the game play all should be fine. It is a little annoying, but using these two monitor buttons atleast allows you to get to the game and play it, and even spend more time in the other game screens that give the annoying ''Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1920x1200 60Hz' warning message.

I hope this helps others that have been struggling with this particular problem.

I know it's maybe a little bit too late, but have you tried the unofficial patch 1.5 ?

I'm worrying that they're talking about Empire Earth 1, and the UP1.5 is for Empire Earth 2 :)

---
I heard that in EE1 the screen resolution in the menu is different (not really 1920x1080), but it changes to 1920x1080 after a map is loaded. But I can't confirm it.

I can. I have a 1600 x 900 resolution enabled in game, but the menu screens have 4:3 aspect ratio.

Oh, so it's about the aspect ratio. I wasn't sure, but I remember that it wasn't displayed "correctly" when I tested EE1, so I thought it's the resolution problem :)
