I like to think of myself as a jack-of-all-trades gamer; I like variety, so I play a little bit of everything. As a result, I tend not to be good at everything. Real Time Strategy games in particular tend to be a bit of a weak spot for me, because I tend not to have much in the way of strategic planning skills beyond "Amass forces and attack." Games like Black and White have stumped me in the past with too much micromanagment, and my propensity for rushing into a fight without thinking ahead has gotten me into trouble in all kinds of games.
With that in mind, would you recommend the Earth series to me? In general, I hate buying games that I'm not capable of finishing without cheat codes.
Also, is there a pause button of some kind in this game? And can you issue commands while the game is paused? Not all RTS games have that, and it's been my experience that being able to pause and command makes a huge difference in game difficulty.

I don't know the answer to your question (I don't have the games myself), but it's definitely a good one. I've used that feature before in at least two different RPGs when I had a large party, but I hadn't really ever though to try it in the RTS games I've played.
Now I'm wondering if the option was available. ;)

Aye. There is an active pause in E2150 and E2160. You can do whatever you want.
Game is not hard. E2150 Escape From The Blue Planet can be challenging sometimes, and that limit made of 180 games days seem to be like another challenge, but really even if you are not hardcore strategy player, you will be able to finish it without problems. The Moon Project is considered as the easiest one, because at some certain point in the campaigns (it includes all 3 races) you will get massive amount of resources.
Lost Souls is the hardest. You get very limited resources, your opponents are always superior to you in number of units etc.
E2160 isnt harder. First 2 campaigns: ED and LC are fairly easy. UCS is a bit harder, only Aliens can be hard to play, because they are very different style. (no typical base at all) And some missions can be really frustrating... But it is possible to finish them :)
Okay, but what about 2140?

To be honest i dont know about pause. Game isnt easy, some missions require more then one try to finish it. Also General (AI that groups your units and sends them to the fight) is helpful. If you dont want to manage large groups of units, just let General do it!

This is an Honest man, bravo sir +1. On any other forums you would get flamed for this, sad isn't it.
Newsflash: The pause button in 2140 freezes the game completely. You cannot push any buttons or even move your mouse cursor while the game is paused. Irritating, but since I've already bought the game, I'll find a way to endure.

...Why would I get flamed? All I said was that I don't like it when it's not possible for me to progress in a game by legitimate means. It's frustrating, and it smacks of poor game design.

that entirely depends on which threads you look in and who has been posting in them.
