rutra80: Thanks everybody for the tips so far. Does MotBW work on Windows XP, or it needs something newer? Is anything removed from MotBW (creatures, spells, etc.) in comparison to Genesis, or is it all supposed to be there too?
I'm still having a hard time deciding. I wouldn't want something that will be obsolete in a couple of months even if it's 0.01$. That's the reason I don't own HoMM 1 & 2 or Disciples 1 - newer versions of these games are pretty much the same but have it all much more appealing.
And I already have huge backlog of games and so little time to play...
Nothing has been removed in MotBW. Actually, several key features have been added. The possibility to save your progress for example (ironman mode is still in if you want it), and shards now have different characteristics which force you to change tactic.

I do not think that the interface is any worse than it is now, and since the game is still in beta it will improve. Also, I do get that some people (especially here) prefer the old-looking 2D models with no animations, but the new 3D models are just beautiful and in no way they interfere with the game mechanics. Also, yes it works on Windows XP.

That said, the game is not ready and I do not get why spending a few dollars now and having fun for the next 2 months or more would in any way compromise your ability to enjoy MotBW. I bought Genesis a month ago and still now even explored more than 50% of it.... Some of the best (game) money I have ever spent.

Well I guess it comes down to this then. If you don't care about waiting and have the ton of other games then fine you can occupy yourself until it comes even if it takes another year.

However if you DO buy it and like it you will then get the 2nd one. But if you don't like it then you would prob not bother with the 2nd and therefore save yourself like 15 bucks as I cannot imagine the new one going for less than 20 at the start.

Well, let's take a look at official screenshots: http://www.snowbirdgames.com/eador/screenshots/
Take any battle screenshot - these pitifully small circles at the bottom - active abilities.
Now imagine pixelhunting for these from top of your 21" monitor to bottom.

In E:G these buttons comparable in size with hexes.

About building wheel - they promise something new, but can you answer honestly - is clicking 8 times each turn on each quarter better than no clicking at all?

Checking sites in province
E:G - click province, you can see amount of sites, click on sites - you can see names. Amount you can see even in neutral/enemy province.

Motbw - click hero. wait for circle. click pitifully small "go to site". you can see names. Another way - through list of all provinces. You can't check sites in neutral/enemy provinces.

This is ridiculous, imo.

Thanks Gremlion for your input.

I don't need to take a look at the screenshot since I played the beta for almost 6 weeks, in 3 different computers, one with a screen of 15" (laptop). I am also playing Genesis at the same time.

I personally don't mind the new UI; I guess I do not have to fight against a well formed habit (you probably have played Genesis for so long). Also, Snowbird said that they are still working on it, so let's see the second phase of the beta before final judgment.

That's being said, I find that your examples involving other games where completely unjustified. I have played (a lot) both HMM3 and HMM5, and in no way Genesis and MotBW will differ so much. HMM3 and HMM5 were two different games based on similar settings; Genesis and MotBW are the same game with different graphic and UI, and a few other very necessary changes (save system, more friendly campaign, and so forth). The same would hold true for Disciples 3 (and I guess you are comparing it to Disciples 2). Once again, Disciples 3 is not just Disciples 2 with 3D graphic; it is a completely different game (and the AI was somewhat broken). So, unless they will forget to include an AI in MotBW, in no way you can say that it will be a ' fail' as Disciples 3, unless you think that Genesis is a ‘fail’ (which obviously you don't).

In the end, and although I am used to newbies claiming this and that, such a definitive and negative claim from a veteran player like yourself could hurt Snowbird, which i really don't want since I am a huge 'nerd' of TBS and there are not many developers willing to provide quality TBS games.

Small buttons aren't an improvement on their own. It makes game harder for shortsighted people like me. I can't figure what they show without squinting.

My examples with other games
Homm 5 vs 3 - I didn't liked pixelhunting for resources in 3d surrounding(remeber missing resources behind forest?).
In motbw it is a problem with distinguishing hills/plains and even swamps/forests.

Disciples 3 - I mean launch fail, this game became playable only year later after release.

Motbw should've been released in february/march 2012 and already was postponed for year to finish multiplayer, which haven't existed in first beta, and even beta version wasn't stable enough to be comparable with, don't know, path of exile beta? grimdawn alpha, which playable for 2-3 hours without crushes, according to devs?
I can understand even Duke Nukem Fornever posponing, because they changed game engine 3 times. But this... They had whole year.

About snowbird studio and their work...
E:G - they paid for translation, years later after release. That's all. All work were done mostly by Bokulev alone with some paid help on artist and composer side. Russian version don't have snowbird logo at all(not true for gog version, though).

Don't know, how good they will be with porting game on new video engine.

ADD: Ok, they removed this building wheel. Maybe there is hope.

Thanks for the clarifications. It is now much clear to me why you are not happy with MotBW. And as you add, today it came the news that they are reworking the UI, so maybe you will be able to enjoy it too.

Since I have no 'history' with Snowbird or their games, I am only influenced by my playing time with Genesis (excellent) and the beta of MotBW (even better).
Gremlion, hopefully you actively participate in beta and constructively report all the issues, your input would be very helpful in making the remake as good as possible.
BTW, I decided not to buy Genesis as for now. Thank you to everyone for the info, now I'm more aware of this game and I can't wait the sequel even more.
I really really enjoyed Eador:Genesis, so I just ordered MotBW. MY suggestion is, if you enjoy strategic games like Eador:Genesis, give MotBW a try :)
From what i saw in pics on eador:motbw i can cay its a bit fail. It uses old crappy hex battle grid which is terrible in 3d! Its far better than homm5 or homm6 but everything looks bland and boring and generic. In 2d you can clearly see every mob uniqueness and in 3d all you see is half leg half arm, half head.. not sure if you follor my thought..

But at least this game doesnt require you to notice and gather 7 recourses which would be pain in the a**. :) I will get both games asap :)

Wealin: Well this one like many GOG releases doesn't like HD setups, things will appear off screen either stretched too vertically or horizontally, windowed mode doesn't work even when changing the shortcut's target or using the GOG's "windowed" shortcut and dabbling with your video card modes and resolution do not work either.
windowed mode works for me by opening the eador.exe instead of the gog launcher
it won't stretch, though
