Kamamura: No need to thank me, I am just passing on advice given by the developers.

gscotti: OK, but why isn't this part of the hotfix? It clearly solves the crashing problem. I have been playing the game ever since, no crashes though I have been plundering like crazy.
My guess would be that they are rushing the next game - Masters of the Broken World - out of the door for January release and nobody cares to make a proper patch for Genesis. Hence the old version number and the confusion about what files correct what.
Hi guys,

We're now trying to figure out what went wrong with game's update on GOG. It all works fine on our side.

And rest assured we won't abandon Genesis, we'll fix it this issue today or on Monday.

gscotti: The "plundering" crash is NOT solved. Let me be perfectly clear: the game still crashes at new turn, when a hero has a quest of plundering a province.
Did you by any chance use dialog.var from eador.com originally provided by Adrageron in first few days after the release of the game? It still had an error with plundering, and was replaced with a fixed file on his server about Dec 10. And, did you have any errors during patch installation due to dialog.var mismatch?

Brand new installation patched with official update has no plundering error, I just checked it. Neither does the newish dialog.var on eador.com, but the version that was there between Dec 1 and Dec 10 had the fault.

Just to make perfectly sure - could you open var/dialog.var with notepad, search for "/64" (no quotation marks), and look at the "text:" field of the event? If it begins with "After obtaining %d gold by plundering the province of %s, the hero %s reports...", it's an obsolete version that the patch failed to replace due to some later changes (most likely as outlined above). The up to date version begins with "Having plundered the province of %s for %d gold, the hero %s reports..."

I did a very simple thing, and I hope you won't misunderstand this very simple process that I am going to describe:
- I installed the game when it was released.
- I started having the plundering crash.
- I noticed that there is a hotfix and applied it.
- Crashing continues.
- Kamamura gives me a link to an updated dialog.var file, which I download and use to replace the dialog.var file on my computer.
- Crashing problem solved!

That's it. It's really simple, so it would take art to misunderstand what I wrote, or imply anything else than what I wrote.

Nevermind. As Sir "Michael Palin" Galahad would say were he in my place - Is there someone else up there we could talk to?

I could ask my son (will be 3 years in a few months) to try to explain this to you in simpler terms. He already speaks two languages, so he might be intellectually intimidating to you, though.

So, is there anyone cooperative who has issues with plundering provinces after applying the hotfix?

Now now, lets stay civilized. I looked into both dialog.var files, the one of the new hotfix and the one that Kamamura uploaded which fixes gscottis crash. The is one small difference, Kamamuras has the Text: twice, as in Text:text: , weird that that would fix anything. Looks like a mistake to me.

Dialog.var from the official hotfix:

/64 Ãðàáåæ ôèíàëüíûé
Window: 2;
Bitmap: 10;
Text: #Having plundered the province of %s for %d gold, the hero %s reports that all the locals have either been exterminated or went into hiding. It appears that further looting is not possible.
What are your orders, sir?#
Answer1: Burn the houses and salt the earth.;
Answer2: Curse these lands. (-15 & );
Answer3: Wait for new orders.;#####

Dialog.var from Kamamura:

/64 Ãðàáåæ ôèíàëüíûé
Window: 2;
Bitmap: 10;
Text: Text: #Having plundered the province of %s for %d gold, the hero %s reports that all the locals have either been exterminated or went into hiding. It appears that further looting is not possible.

I apologize, the suggested method actually works (deleting everything and then make clean install of the game and the update).

However, two problems I would like to see fixed prevail:
- The game is super-slow on my Nvidia card desktop. The ATI laptop is okay
- The version number is still incorrect.

However, the plundering bug is fixed, so thank you for that.

Thank you.

The hotfix does not touch the executable, it just overwrites several localization files that had scripting errors or text issues. Hence, the version number is not changed.
We looked into what might have gone wrong with the update and didn't find any problems.

Most probably those of you who are still experiencing plundering bug have used dialog.var posted here on the forums earlier. Please try to uninstall and install the game again.
Hello,
I am experiencing the same bug. Could anyone help me finding the dialog file, please? I have version 1.05.1
Thank you.

You can quickly edit the dialog.var file yourself, the bug just reappeared in the New Horizons mod:

http://eador.com/B2/viewtopic.php?t=2842

Change the numbers from this buggy entry:

/1135 Ðèòóàë Ñìåðòåëüíûé óæàñ
Window: 106;
Bitmap: 81;

to these correct ones:

Window: 2;
Bitmap: 106;

Or you can just update you game to the latest gog version.

Edit: Just realized this is a different error in the same file.

Gee, so this thing is not a translation error but an Eador error. I think that is because I have an old English version of Genesis and based New Horizons on it.
