I remember with my orginal copy, there was patches i could of manually downloaded from the orginal bullfrog site and it also had additional units and maps on the site. are the additional units and maps in this version?
You haven't mentioned which game you are talking about.

The GOG version of DK2 has the 'broken' patch 1.7. It does come with some additional maps and a new creature, but it breaks multiplayer, unit attractions and rival keepers (they won't fight back anymore.)

For DK1, it's patched to 1.3, it does not come with additional maps or units. It also comes with Deeper Dungeons, which does have some new maps. Many more maps can be downloaded from this website.
I apologize. I mean DK2, If you havnt noticed my post count, I am fairly new to gog, even thought i created my account back in 2015, it was just to cash in on the free games that I never installed, and lately have just been getting disappointed with the newer games with fake representation on other storefronts, So i have gotten old and figured, lets stick to what I knew was fun and not disappointing. When i clicked on the forum link i "assumed" it put me in a DK2 forum and not a DK Series forum, that was a failure in attention to detail on my end. However thank you very much for clarify the answer for both games.

By breaking multiplayer, what is broken in that aspect? My friends and I were thinking about Lan-ing up a game or two when I come back from overseas.

By that, I believe he means it breaks the skirmish/mulitplayer AI.

If that bothers you, you can use the General Improvement Mod and then specifically run the game through DKII.exe (not DKII-DX.exe) which is then replaced with a modified v1.51 one, the last version known to have proper AI (but you lose the Maiden unit introduced later).
Here is an excellent rundown of versions.
In 1.7 multiplayer often fails to start and many people have their game crash at some point.

Using GIM is a good idea if you own the GOG version of the game. I'd say almost required.
