Download the exe, extract to desktop...I'm told to run the installer but there is none. There is a HRP rar in the folder but extracting that shows no installer either. If I run eduke it works fine. I'm missing something obvious here but what?

My version is a little old now but what I had to do was put the HRP zip file into the relevant autoload folder. E.g.

...\eDuke32\autoload\duke3d.grp\duke3d_hrp.zip
...\eDuke32\autoload\duke3d.grp\hrp_update.zip
...\eDuke32\autoload\duke3d.grp\maphacks.zip

Though as I say, mine isn't up to date and as such it was split into three parts. The basic HRP, some updates to it and the associated maphacks (minor edits to maps to compensate for the 3D models and such so that the levels all fit together correctly and look okay).


EDIT: Looking at the site, my files would appear to be the individual zip files. You might be better off just getting the full standalone 7-zip self extractor that has the lot in it.

Those instructions that are included are bogus for some reason. There is no installer. The self extracting archive will give you a Duke3D folder that contains eduke32.exe. Run that. Check the polymer check-box. Set the custom game content directory to "autoload". You could also just check the autoload check-box, but the custom game content directory option is the recommended method. I don't know the reason though. Then press start and you should be good to go.

If some of the options are not available to you, its because your using a larger font size with windows. Either go back to the default temporarily, or just edit the config file manually.

Don't forget to copy DUKE3D.GRP (44 meg file) from your GOG Duke Nukem 3D directory to the new HRP Duke Nukem 3D directory, replacing the DUKE3D.GRP file there (it's 10 megs or so).

This is the file that contains your game levels. The smaller one that you are replacing is from the demo of the game.

Then just launch eduke32 to play the game.

This is old but why is it recommended to use the custom game directory?
