It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta gum.
I loved Duke Nukem (was very good at it as well) and I seriously want to play it again. Thing is I don't have Windows.... but I do have DosBox installed on my Linux box.
So the question is this:
Is it possible to extract just the Duke Nukem game from the package / installer?
Is the installer just an exe zip file that I can just decompress for example?
Thanks....
Oh...no... I spelt it wrong in the subject; be gentle.

GOG installers can't be extracted. You have to actually run the installer.
GoG's installers are created using Inno Setup; consequently you should be able to extract the files using innounp. I just tested it with the Duke Nukem 3D installer, and it appears to work fine.
It looks like innounp author only provides Windows binaries though, so you'll have to compile it from source (if it is Linux compatible) or run the Windows binaries using Wine.

Couldn't you just install the game though wine and be done with it? If you're going to end up having to use wine for the unpacker anyway...

Find the Dosbox settings in Windows, and use that file configuration in the Linux Dosbox. BTW, Dosbox is for running MS-DOS executables, not Windows or Linux.

I play duke3d on linux with eduke, it works without problems and has some advantages on dosbox (mouselook and higher resolution, high resolution pack).
you still need the game file (you probably should install it once with wine and save all the files you may need), but I would recommend eduke over dosbox.
True, eDuke32 overall is a fair bit better in terms of controls and graphics. However, DOSbox has been the only way I have been able to play multiplayer without crashing as the multiplayer hasn't been fixed in eDuke32 yet.

Actually you can and it does work. I haven't done it in a while, but IIRC you extract the exe and you're left with a few directories, the one you want will have the dosbox config and the files. Just mount that directory under dosbox and you should be good to go.

EDIT: to the OP, you might try universal extractor under Wine, assuming you can't borrow a WIn computer for a bit. I'd provide you with the files, but that's just opening up a can of worms that is probably best left unopened.

I install Duke with Wine. so you get the duke3d.grp file

Than I used the debian/ubuntu repository discribed here:
http://wiki.eduke32.com/wiki/APT_repository

The "timidity" MIDI emulation deamon is recommendet ( got it anyway for SystemShock in a DosBox :)

Just played the 1st level. Seems to be pretty cool!
