I bought DreadOut on sale yesterday and was enjoying playing until I reached a game breaking bug in Act 1.

[Possible spoilers] Just after the scissor man fight, you are chased down a hallway by a large, creepy woman. I kept running down the hallway until I ran into blackness and then presumably fell off the map. [/end spoilers]

Now when I reload, I am trapped in the blackness with no way to return to the hallway, and I have only one save available (since the game autosaves).

This specific bug, according to a thread on Steam, was patched out of DreadOut in the "2015-05-20 - DreadOut 2.2.2 Release - build no. 626217" update... but was apparently not patched out of the GOG release.

Disappointing. Hopefully, GOG will fix this. In the meantime, please be aware that you may run into the same bug.

[EDIT: After contacting GOG and verifying that this bug is reproducible, I e-mailed the developers and reported the bug. Feel free to do the same (support@digitalhappiness.net).

Having now played through both Act 1 and 2, I encountered a variety of other (distracting but not game breaking) bugs, so I highly recommend keeping backup save files while playing DreadOut.

Your autosave ("save.1") plus a backup created by the game ("save.1.old") can be found in the game's installation directory in the following subdirectory: cloud\###\############## (where the hashtags are a series of numbers).

At key points in the game (after the tiny 'recording' icon appears on the top right of the screen, indicating that a save has been made), simply tab out of the game, copy the "save.1" file to another location (for example, a folder on your desktop) and label it (or a subfolder) with information explaining what part of the game the save file represents.

Then, when you want to replay from a save that you backed up, exit the game, copy the appropriate backup save over the current "save.1" file in the game directory (if necessary, rename backup save to "save.1" again before copying), and reload the game.

You will lose any in-game progress made after the backup save that you select, so be certain you want to do this before replacing the file.]

Has the GOG version of DreadOut received the patch removing this problem?

Hi, SpellSword. Sadly, there has been no action taken on this and the bugs remain. If you like survival horror games, it is probably still worth the current sale price (at 90% off). I personally wouldn't pay much more for it in its current state. :/ Sorry for the bad news.

That is a pity.

Thank you for the information.
