So you say goodbye to your sister open the door, see the intro video presenting your little fishing village and bam straight through towards the desktop enviroment at the end of the video presumably when you take control of your character again.

tried veryfying nothing. tried changing the path figuring the game might have problems with a spatial in the folder title still nothing

any suggestions on how to deal with this problem?

That's not the event log, but whatever,.
This looks like a missing or corrupted file. I wouldn't count on verification with this issue. Try clean re-instal of the whole game. But do it manually, don't use Galaxy: it is notorious for screwing things up.

Also, if you have any mods instaled, which I doubt you have as everything;s done for the Steam release, remove them.
