Any chance we might get the Mac version here as well. I think EA published it themselves, so they should be able to make it available here. Any word?

Clocknova: ...
I heard there were some major performance issues in Origin's original Mac version, and a number of people had better luck with a Wineskin-wrapped version of the Steam release.

I haven't found the time to download and build a wrapper for this GOG version yet, but that's my plan for now. If I notice someone beat me to it over on the "Judas does the run in wine?" thread, I'll post a cross link.
Thanks. I didn't realize that the original version was Cider.
I second this Mac version. I would like to see an 'official' version rather than trying to find the right Wine or Cider wrapper for the PC version.
Setting up Wine on OS X is always a pain. I already own the game on Origin, but I'd buy it again on GOG if it'd "just work" on my MacBook.

Just grab the old cider wrapper here:
http://portingteam.com/files/file/7163-dragon-age-origins-steam-version/

install the game on a windows virtual machine and configure it with the settings you want (screen resolution etc...)
copy the Bioware/Dragon Age folder from Documents folder on windows to Documents folder on mac.
copy the game folder inside Program Files folder in the wrapper
rename the folder from Dragon Age Origins to dragon age
change the Info.plist file inside the wrapper from
c:\Program Files/Dragon Age/bin_ship/revloader.exe
to
c:\Program Files/Dragon Age/bin_ship/DAOrigins.exe

if you need any help just ask me.

I think (not 100% sure) that the portingteam port is the old cider official port from the retail version.
Also I played the base game with it without any problems.

PS. remember that if you want to use wine on mac (this is not the case) you just need to use wineskin instead of plain wine... and that portingkit app and portingteam website contain many premade wrappers.

PS2. Also there is a crack inside the portingteam wrapper, but you don't actually need it with the gog version.
Just remember that what you download from portingteam are just wrapper (not games) and to make steam version work sometimes they include crack (the steam client port is a recent thing).

I haven't owned a Windows license since... 1999? ;)

I came across the Porting Team's wrapper this morning. Good to know it works with the the GOG version. I may give it a try if I have any problems building a Wineskin wrapper. So long as the installer works in Wine, I suppose I could copy the install dir over from there.

Looks like people have had varying degrees of luck playing DA:O on Wine since 2011—where most of the problems seem to be related to DLC registration (which hopefully doesn't apply here).

Wineskin and Winetricks makes things pretty simple for most game installs on a Mac. I occasionally miss having my custom Wine builds from Linux, but certainly don't miss spending the time building them :D

I've probably got 20-30 games running in custom wrappers on my Macbook at this point. Well worth the effort, but it's certainly not for everyone. Thanks to the Porting Team, PlayOnMac, and Paul The Tall (and WineHQ, of course) it's often easy enough for the uninitiated to find existing wrappers, or at least the required settings to get started.

/rant :)

I probably would have tried a port this morning, but I need to free up a bit of drive space. If the 40 gig rumor is true (plus the installer size!), I think I'll be running experimental builds on an external drive. At least we can delete some of the localization files to get the size down a bit.

Well I'm a student I got it for free, butl you don't have to own windows to get a working virtual machine... you just need the trial version of windows and virtualbox (both are free). Anyway the installation should work on wineskin too, the problem might bee the configuration/dlc manager utilities and the documents folder (that might be necessary... I'm not sure at all). I keep a simple virtual machine only to install game to port it with premade wrapper, usually it is easier to copy the installation folder instead of trying to install it under wineskin (not always).
This time I prefer to use the portingteam wrapper because I think (not 100% sure) that this is the original official retail port for mac (that was never released on digital stores like steam, origin or gog... I saw a digital version on amazon but in my country amazon does not sell games so I could not test it).

to avoid crash you can use this methd on mac:
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/196027/how-to-disable-hyperthreading-on-mac-os-x-yosemite

still I suggest you to just save ofter because with 1 CPU limit the game is not smooth
this is a problem of the windows version too... the game crash on multi-core cpu.

EDIT. Better to also disable frame buffer effects. Without them you can use 2 core cpu with no crash at all
(if you have a 4 core the game will still make your pc reboot if you don't limit your cpu to 2 core)

Yup, the Mac version gets my vote also :)

Worked for me, thank you :)
Looks like vanchann had good luck with a Wine build. Encouraging. Granted, he built on FreeBSD with Wine 1.9.13, and I think Wineskin's only up to 1.9.11 at the moment. Still, I can't think of any major changes between the two versions that should affect this build :)
And it works on an Intel HD5000!

Thanks Lieflayer, the GOG version works for me too in that Porting Team wrapper. I'm getting good performance on a 2013 1.3 GHZ, 8GB 11" MBA with the integrated Intel 5000 gpu with no major graphical glitches.

Also - not having access to Windows, I used a wine wrapper to install (just the generic "Wrapper" in Porting Kit using the GOG setup exe, followed up by the patch). It worked fine, the "Bioware" folder automatically got dropped into "Documents" and otherwise your instructions were spot on. I then configured the video prefs witihin the game after copying it into the actual Porting Team wrapper. You have to relaunch to get the aspect ratio right though. Awakenings looked good too when I tested it and the game aknowledged all the other DLCs.

good to know that you can still install the game in a generic wineskin wrapper.
