It seems like the fire traps: a) explode even when my rogue avoids them carefully; and b) once they are triggered, they never stop exploding. It just goes on and on (and I mean forever, for as long as my party is anywhere near them). Is the latter supposed to keep happening?

Also would it not make sense that you could douse them with a Rain spell?
Which fire traps do you mean? The bulbs? And where exactly in the game?

Dont forget you can move objects in the game. ;)
I reloaded a few times and eventually I got a reload inwhich the traps did stop exploding. Otherwise it just went on and on. At one point I left my computer for about ten minutes and when I came back the traps were still exploding. I don't mean the bulbs, I mean traps. And those traps go off even if my character doesn;t go close. I'm experiencing quite a few bugs in this game, and this seems to obe one of them.

Where and in which level are these traps located? You can see the coordinates at the bottom of the minimap in the top right corner of the screen.
I wouldn`t be able to remember, but it was the ery first area where I encountered the traps.

This sounds like the indestructible magic bulbs that you encounter right after you escape Fort Joy. There are different kinds not just fire and once triggered they will keep producing their magic effect. You should be able to move them with telekinesis or spells. Flying over them is also an option but you won't have the flying spell the first time you encounter them. Also if i remember correctly the first time they get triggered is when you are speaking to the dead heads. You should be able to avoid them all together and reach the hideout without triggering any of them.

A side note: ''Explosions'' are usually the result of fire+oil effects interacting so it might be just oil magic bulbs continuously producing oil that gets reignited by a fire effect and you wouldn't need a continuous fire effect, once ignited the oil bulbs should explode ''forever''.

P.S. i love the Divinity:OS2 spell and environment mechanics :D
