Hello. I have a question to Diablo 1 veterans. What is currently the most faithful way to play Diablo/Hellfire with the experience closest to the original, but with the minor addition of QoL changes? Things like ALT highlighting items on the ground, jogging in town (already present in Hellfire), private stash (necessary?), bug fixes (Hellfire have a lot), etc. I consider these minor things essential for a more rich gaming experience, but all existing mods that add these little things change several other aspects of the game, altering the gameplay, difficulty and overall experience. Are there any simple mod that just add/fix those little things?
Currently such a thing doesn't exist but

should eventually evolve into it
Good to know that, friend. Great news, indeed. I wish you good luck in your project. It is good that there are projects like that, that do not alter everything in the game. Can’t wait to play it.
Id also recommend torch, vanilla diablo with alt highlighting and ingame stash:

Can you give me the link to the latest version for both Diablo and Hellfire so I can try it out? Thanks.

Is this mod dead? None of the download links work. It just says 'This upload does not exist'.

Torch is something like what I am looking for but walking around in town is too slow and I think is going to get very annoying very quickly.

thanks for reporting that, I was googling for "permanent file upload" and found that crappy website, seems they lied : P
added new links
Thank you for the updated links.

I downloaded the DDraw file for Hellfire and I immediately ran into a problem. With the original ddraw file, the game looks correct. No stretching, just black bars along the left and right hand side like I would expect. With this new Ddraw file, the game is stretched which looks really ugly. I hit zero to change the resolution. My screen goes black for a second, and when my screen comes back, no resolution change is taking place. I tried every resolution offered. I checked ddraw_settings.ini and the new resolution is being written there.. I am just not seeing it in game.

I have played both Beblezbub and The Hell 2 mods with higher resolutions without issue. I want to test out this mod but I need to fix the resolution issue first. At least put the black bars back, (instead of stretching across my screen) but even better, make other resolutions actually work.

Any idea how to fix this?

Hi. I managed to make the ddraw file work with Hellfire. But not with the original Diablo. Am I doing something wrong? I put the ddraw.dll file in the Diablo folder and enter the game, but nothing happens.

P.S.: Can you make the character run around town in the original Diablo?

did you get the 1.09 ddraw for original diablo?
The one for Hellfire I put in the Hellfire folder. The one for original Diablo I put in the main folder. Something wrong?

Diablo 1.08/1.09 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mc1Mfdwe8ubKbsg1D4LMOjVmmejiNJY5/view

Is this file, correct?

Edit: I think I discovered the problem. I am selecting the "enhanced" version of Diablo in the GOG Launcher. You have to place the ddraw.dll file in the "dx" subfolder to work with this version. The main folder is for the classic "non-enhanced" Diablo version.

I'll try both versions now. Thank you. How do I highlight items and objects on the floor in the original and in Hellfire with your mod?

Sorry to ask again but: Can you make the character run around town in the original Diablo? The character looks like an elderly slug. :)

stuff gets highlighted when you kill all monsters on the floor, in hellfire it doesn't because there's the search spell, so I'm not gonig to duplicate its feature, as for running, it'd be complicated

Thanks for the answer.

You said that items, objects and shrines are displayed on the automap as squares soon as you kill all the monsters on the floor. Hellfire doesn't have this function? Can you add this function to the Search spell? If the player kills all the monsters on the floor, the spell gets stronger and reveals everything on the automap. It would save a lot of wasted time looking for a item/chest missed on the floor.

Search doesn't display objects and shrines on the automap. Only the items close to the player location are displayed as blue squares.

yeah but there's no such a thing as " Can you add this function to the Search spell?", I'll have to write highlighting from scratch like I did for vanilla and since hellfire has search, I considered it a waste of time :P
