So duping in hellfire doesnt work anymore. I read about different method, by creating a small stack of gold (1) having it in inventory, and when you pick up item, you click on the gold instead of potion in belt. It worked in video, on the same patch, but i didnt manage to make it work. Anyone found a solution?

I tried the 1 gold in inventory trick with no free slots where you pick up 5k and it doesn't have enough room, resulting in 5k dropped on the ground instead of just the 1 excess gold, but it doesn't seem to work here either. I'm guessing GOG fixed all of the exploits and that we're forced to pick up tons of crap in order to make a little cash.

Before anyone starts complaining about cheating, this game has some issues that simply don't allow for certain purchases to be made. For example, on this most recent replay (which is probably my 50th without ever duping) as a Barbarian, Wirt is offering a Topaz Armor of the Moon for a hair under 12k gold. Now this would be incredibly useful for any lvl 6 character, but an amazing start for a Barb who has 0 magic.

Picking up and selling everything to include all of the books and scrolls I've found have me at about 10.5K, so the item simply teases me as I know it will disappear after I level up. I'm only a couple of mobs away from leveling and the role resetting, so it's annoying that such an item is dangled in front of my face and there is no hope of getting it unless the next three mobs drop two unidentified staves that will sell for over 750 gold each.

I love playing this game for how it's meant to be played, but I also think that the vendor randomization has been flawed since the beginning. We've all passed up on great loot because we couldn't afford it, but I would be more accepting of that fact if it was due to upkeep/repairs/recharges, poor money management, or that you had to choose between more than one great option -- not when there is NO possible hope of legitimately raising the money. I haven't done a single repair or purchase and am sad that I still am unable to grab an item that would be of great use.

GOG seems not to have addressed any gameplay bugs elsewhere, so I'd be surprised if they fixed this.

Per Jarulf's Guide, section 3.9.4, page 48:

He [Wirt] will renew the item only if you have bought the previous one and then gone into the dungeons or when you gain a new character level that is even.

Your current character level is even, so you will need to level up twice before Wirt changes his inventory. This should give you plenty of room in which to acquire the needed gold.

Use duping item method same as for Diablo 1.09... That's working.
Just buy in the beginning something like spellbook, stuff etc... Dupe it and sale to vendor when you need money to buy some. It will be borring because in the beginning all things cost cheap and take up lots place in inventory. but in the middle game at Nightmare you could find (unfortunately I forgot how it calls) ring which will be cost around 10к gold which you could also duplicate when it's needed.

I do appreciate your input, though I swear that Wirt's mechanics are bugged or something as the item has changed without an increase in my level. I'm guessing it has to do with me entering Leoric's tomb as it must count differently than a normal increase in dungeon depth.

It's also worth noting that I've painstakingly traversed Leoric and all of Catacombs lvl 3 in order to get as much gold as I have already. Any person, even if they don't fully clear each level, should reach level 9 before or after killing Leoric, which would cycle Wirt's inventory (although it already has for some reason) and still leave them with around 10K gold if they used it sparingly.

I finally reached my near-12k gold milestone (even though Wirt's inventory had switched long before) by running/phasing around level 4 but have determined that the item I so badly wanted was impossible to purchase. Literally impossible during a normal play-through unless I were to find nine unidentified staves that sold for 800+ each. Running around in areas where I'm 4 -5 levels behind in order to open chests and what not without being able to fight enemies to avoid XP is not how the game is meant to be played, thus I am bummed that the duping has been fixed. I am no cheater and have played this game scores of times over decades, but am tired of the nigh impossible-to-obtain vendor offerings.

Nope. Method when you fulled inventory by anything and 1 piece of gold. Walk to the item on the ground by clicking on item during walking fast open inventory and you should catch moment when character trying grab item an click on 1p piece of gold. At YouTube lots of video of this method. It's work 100 for Diablo and Hellfire.

Just tried this, and the 1 piece of gold turns into a 0 gold stack when trying to dupe a stack of gold, and the 1p gold disappears when I try to dupe an item.

Quick edit: Found an older video on YT of "only works in Hellfire" where you drop stacks of 5000g and leave 1g in your otherwise full inventory. In the video he just picks up the 5000 and the 1g is transformed right away - this also did not work when I tried it (the expected behavior did: the stack in my inventory turned into 5000, leaving 1g on the ground, since my character had picked up as much of the ground stack as possible.

What Wirt has to sell can be changed at any time or not depending on how you reload the game. Reload from the in game menu and Wirt's item for sale remains the same. Reload by first going New Game and then Load Game and the item Wirt has for sale changes.

By choice I prefer not to abuse this as tempting as it may be to just save standing next to him and changing what he has to sell till something desireable shows up. However, should I trigger a cursed Shrine I use it as an excuse to change (or not if desireable) what Wirt has for sale.

OTOH while shopping for a New Game I often have a New Game saved where Griswald has something desireable but I'd like to do better. If in a subsequent New Game it turns out Wirt has something I want and can afford then I just load game pulling what Wirt has for sale into the the previous game I saved with Griswald having an item I was interested in.

The duplication method works only for items not for gold. That is why it can be more difficult early on. It does work however.

Hey bud check out my thread here: https://www.gog.com/forum/diablo/adventurers_wanted_for_diablo_hellfire_multiplayer/post1

I'm playing a version of Diablo Hellfire that includes a stash and 10k stacks of gold making it so you can play the game legitimately and have fun with it and won't even feel the need to dupe. :)
Looking for people to play with so if you are interested join the discord I linked in that thread.

I had wirt item change after a load. After buying an item (ring w 23 dex for rogue) from wirt i misclicked and loaded a save right before buying the item. The item was different than the one before the save. :(

I'm at even level and wirt has an amulet of the zodiac with +20 to all attributes for 57K. Missing 25K. This is on nightmare level 3, I don't think I'll make 25K within 2 levels...I could use the amulet since I'm only lvl 20 - I switched to nightmare after level 3 in normal.

The section to which you responded was in the context of changes within a game. For each of the other vendors, Jarulf's Guide states that reloading a saved game changes the inventory. It is oddly silent on whether Wirt behaves the same. As I read the Devilution source, which I take as a substitute for testing the game, saving / loading does not save/load Wirt's item (boyitem in stores.cpp). Therefore, it looks like Wirt also will change his item each time you reload:
- Source/interfac.cpp: LoadGame(TRUE);
- Source/loadsave.cpp: LoadGameLevel(firstflag, ENTRY_LOAD);
- Source/diablo.cpp: InitStores();
- Source/stores.cpp: boyitem._itype = ITYPE_NONE;

I see no sign of code which would assign boyitem from anything in the save file, so loading a game will blank out Wirt's inventory. A later step will notice he has no item and will then generate one.

I think this means that you must not close the program between when you see an item you want and when you buy it.

Could you fight in deeper levels? Higher level monsters drop more gold per kill, and will drop items with better enchantments. The higher quality enchantments will sell for more gold in town.

Thanks for taking a look. That'd make sense in re: to refresh of wirt's item. Reloading the save multiple times had Wirt have the same item, but that's expected if the random generator state persists across save/loads.

It would be quite dangerous skipping some levels and going deeper, this is already hard as is at level 20 and mediocre items. I may be able to scramble enough money, since the monsters are dropping 200+ gold and found an elixir of vitality which might be worth selling and may get me over the 25K needed.
