I downloaded the offline version of this game from GOG as I am playing it off of a USB on a work laptop.

I am trying to use DiabloLauncher.exe in order to launch into the High Resolution mode.

Whenever I click the Classic mode or High Resolution mode the menu just closes. Pressing Video Settings does nothing.

I have tried using dxcfg.exe to adjust the video settings but it still does not seem to be high definition when I choose PResentation "Full Screen" and Display Mode "Same As Desktop".

I also had to copy and paste DIABDAT.MPQ into the dx folder in order for Diablo.exe to launch with my dxcfg.exe changes without asking for a CD.

OMG I have the same problem as you.100% SAME PROBLEM!
We can't play Diablo if this Launcher problem dont fix
Launcher is just for convenience. Team will definitely look into that issue of course, but in the meantime you can just go to the game folder and run .exe directly.

Yes this is what I am doing for the time being to play what appears to be low resolution. Do you know of a work around to play in high resolution mode?

Thank you for answering my questions.
But I tried to run .exe already, still can't run Hi-resolution version.
When I start DIABLO. it will become 256bit color(wrong color only pixel)and 640x480 resolution (Full screen)
It's very funny. When I play DIABLO (CLASSIC) .I will never be in game.It will tell me YOU HAVE TO put Disk to CD-ROM

Try copying the DIABDAT.MPQ file from the Diablo folder into the dx folder

I am going to download the other version of Diablo tonight on my home PC and look for differences in files to see if I can find an easy copy and paste solution, if no one else figures this out before then.

Same deal for me. Launches fine from the folder, though.

Hi, please give DevilutionX a try, it should allow you to play the game.

Remember that the "hi-res" version is merely the original resolution scaled up--so it will look almost exactly like the low-res version, even so. Scaled up to 3840x2160 the game looks just like the low-res version. This is not Diablo "remastered" or anything close to that--it's the original game. I play single player with mods, and some of those mods can and do look better than the original game--but the game is often changed somewhat from the original. There are quite a lot of Diablo mods out there which work fine with this GOG version 1.09b. A sample:
