I just started DE:HR and find it quite similar to the original DE in design... I am enjoying it.

"Quite", because there are two HORRIBLE design choices :

- Instant take-down. OK, easy to rule out by binding the action by a key only an Hungarian keyboard you have.

- Horrible XP award system - which gives you more XP for hacking a system rather then finding the code, for taking someone down rather then sneaking around him, ...

Is there a mod or anything to correct the XP system ? Alternatively, will I have a decent number of Praxis (and thus mod) without "gaming" the XP system ?

Thank you

Don't know about the mod but anyway you should be fine with whatever gameplay you like. You will get more then enough praxis to unlock the essentials. Rest are just for some additional fun.
I'm playing it myself, and have found it to be a great game. sure there will be problems, but i tend to put up with a lot if the game grabs me the right way.
I've gotten over the hate for this game, hence the heavy edit of my original post. Having no other game that I wanted to play right now (800+ hours of Skyrim is enough), I gave Deus Ex: HR another shot; and I"m actually liking it this time. Third time's the charm, I guess.

I've recounted the ballots and am giving this game a 7/10 instead of my original 4/10. Certainly worth trying if you haven't yet.

There are only 2 Deus Ex games, the first and Human Revolution.
I played without using any take-down (except a quest related one) and it was GREAT. Just force yourself not to use them.
Sorry for being a bit off-topic. Is there any DRM-free Deus Ex: Human Revolution version sold somewhere, or is this strictly a steamworks game?

Not that I know of. =(

My biggest gripe with the game was the way that XP was rewarded in general. The XP system rewarded you for stealth, pacifism, not bothering to find codes, and certain other things (ie: certain paths were rewarded more than others, making it less open ended).

Aside from that, compared to other games of this generation, I would say that I really loved it.
I see. Thanks for the info.

That's true. I hack all computers even if I have the codes. I like to take everyone down, anyway. I like to explore the zone after "cleaning" it.
