For the few other people clinging to the olds ways and wondering (especially considering that the other websites list vista as a minimum requirement) I've managed to run and play the game just fine on my Core2Duo running Windows XP SP3 (although only about half an hour yet). If anybody is on the fence, I could report back after a few hours of gameplay.
Works fine for me, too (smooth cinematics, smooth gameplay, no chopping or anything like that, no crashes).
I just had a coffe with the hotel owner :)

I just realized that the text-conversation sound effects are accompanied by a scratchy sound that shouldn't be there (slightly distracting, but nothing too awful). Also, when York is indoors, there's this weird background hum coming from my speakers (I assume it's abnormal... is it?)

As others have noticed, the car also has a funny habit of wanting to go right.

Besides these bizarre bugs, I'm thoroughly enjoying the game

None of this happened on my playthrough on XP.
For the car - do you have a pad \ joystick plugged in? If you do, try to unplug it.

I don't have a pad to unplug, but thanks for the suggestion. Updating my drivers didn't solve the audio glitches either. Oh well, it'll give me a reason to do another playthrough of the game at some undetermined future when I resolve the issue :D

When I played it on the 360, the car also liked hanging right all the time - wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional, but it might not be. :)
