Hi guys!

TL:DR This makes things even better : https://www.darkreignws.com/download/

Our version of this game is 1.4, which is is the latest official release. However, the wonderful Dark Reign community created the unofficial patch (https://www.darkreignws.com/download/) that fixes many issues that were still present after the last official update, most notably the lack of TCP/IP multiplayer support. We can't use the patch for obvious reasons, but it is highly recommended. :)
In addition, the https://www.darkreignws.com/ community is still active and it is a nice place to find other people interested in this title.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The 1.7 version is disabling the in game music.

Probably because the 1.7 patch isn't so much a patch at it is a full copy of the game that was modified. Or perhaps some of the included programs/content go against gogs policy.

I suppose one could find out what's different in the files and make a patch to inject it into the 1.4 patched files that gog has.

After applying this patch IN-GAME music seems to disappear. How to return the music to the game?

Great, GOG is promoting a patch which has SERIOUS issues with their own release. Have the same issue with the music. Guess the reason for it is that the games trys to get the music from the cd with the 1.7 patch present (it just played my Iron Maiden Album ingame).

So Paczyk, please don't promote patches you obviously havent tested with the GOG version of the game.

1 little bug with is to do with music and you lot moan about that, the patchs before that 1 had alot of serous bugs in it, just turn off the music in options and play the game just fine

Atomicfire, you don't get neither the problem nor the point.

1. A GOG team member promotes a patch that doesn't work to well with their own release.
2. That so small bug causes no music /only cd music to be played ingame if you use that promoted patch.
=> Thread should be unstickied and GOG should make users aware of the problem.

Sadly the main head behind the patch seems to be inactive for quite a while.

ill tested this on my bro system because he got the gog version and ive got the cd verion, also ill try to get the music off the cd which ive got to see wot will happen

Can someone help me out here... :)

I've just bought Dark Reign from GOG and started reading the support threads here.
Reading about the unofficial 1.7 patch I decided to download and use it.

What I can't understand is it appears to be the full Dark Reign game, there's no patch to apply as such. Is this unofficial patch actually a re-worked / modded full version of the game?

Do I even need the GOG version?
Is this legal (1.7 release)?
Really really confused.....

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated :)

Hi guys,

I have updated the post above with a clear warning.

The 1.7 modification is still using the CD as a music source. Only GOG's 1.4 has been modified to use the mp3 files instead. The 1.7 is not perfect, that is why it was not included in the installer. However it changes some of the game's aspects that we liked. That's why we wanted to share this information with you and promote the community of this great game for those interested in the multiplayer.

I apologise for the missing music issue, I should have warned everyone about it.
That was a "Shaka, when the walls fell" on my part :(

Hello folks,

I created the original patch for Dark Reign to get multiplayer working (was just a few files) which you can get in the link below. I assume it will work with GOG's version of dark reign, but could someone knowledgable try it out and report their results first?

Just unzip to your dr directory overwriting the original files. Probably a good idea to back those up also.

Also if you're interested in multiplayer, you'll probably want DROM as well, it's a chat client that connects to the current server everyone plays at so you don't have to run the game each time just to check if anyone's online.

There are two versions:

Newer and nicer GUI version DROM 2 with more features written by zeddy

Original DROM 0.5 (crappy, but runs on linux)
