fryjar: Any way of alerting GOG directly to this thread to make them aware of this issue? I responded to Paczyk in the Sticky thread but if one of the games sold on GOG is not running properly, I would hope that there is a way to alert the wider staff to it.

Lord_Kane: Contact Support directly.
But the saving issue is being looked at by N1 on the Dark Reign.ws discord, so we may have solution eventually.
That's cool!

Great! Darkreign.ws is awesome. I decided to contact GOG support as you suggested too, though. Just to let them know properly. Love GOG, don't want to go for refund %) So, hope they'll fix it one day.

P.S. Happy New Year, everybody!!!
I wrote gog.com an email about this issue with win 10. They did respond positive. So they might actually fix it. Stay tuned!

Cool. Because I tried to contact the support and the story so far is - after going through the common stuff like re-installing the game, checking the admin rights, trying another PC, etc, they've just offered me a refund (I'm not going for it). Meanwhile, I keep trying things... Can't find the actual thread, but somebody here, on GOG forums, said that the original CD version of Dark Reign works fine on Win 10 and it's something related to GOG's "no CD" solution. After hours of looking, I found my good old CD (I have only the original game, no expansion). Surprisingly, installs fine, but asks for CD every time I'm trying to start the game (clearly, copy protection doesn't work on Win 10). I tried some different "no CD" .exes from the net and I tried the unofficial patches. 1.4 and 1.7. I also tried your fixed .exes from the other thread here. All of those help with starting the campaign. But neither of them help with the crashing problem. In other words, my old CD version acts exactly the same with the one from GOG. Maybe it's because GOG version left some traces in my system? I doubt it, though. Since usually when you select "uninstall all componentes", GOG uninstaller does delete everything. So... yeah. The problem stays. And the worst thing is... I can't even guess what's the source of it. Tactics.log says "ERROR Save 1058". But WHAT IS that "ERROR Save 1058"?! T_T
Dark Reign isn't the problem. It's our operating systems. 32 bit isn't common anymore. 64 bit is standard now. Even prebuilt computers come with Win 10 64 bit now. The Windows 10 emulator doesn't work properly. Some Windows 10 files that Dark Reign requires have been either replaced or updated. That confuses Dark Reign.

And the no cd starter exes don't interfer with dkreign.exe. They only give dkreign.exe the password to unlock the game. Either it's the password for future of war or expansion.

They did that with starter exes because dkreign2.exe probably wouldn't work if a dll is searching for dkreign.exe. Making 2 fixed dkreign exes might be very difficult.

The original dk cds as I remember only come as the Version 1.2 then there was a buggy 1.3 patch that was replaced with patch 1.4.

It would be great if someone could try dark reign on Windiws 10 32 bit.
Dark Reign works on Windows 10 but you cannot save during a mission or the game will crash. However you are free to save between missions so that your campaign progress is stored safely.

Unfortunately this is still not fixed even on the latest community patch (v.1.8.1)

In the mean time just save between missions while you're finishing the campaign :)

So, it is possible to save between missions? OK... challenge accepted :)

Not always.

In other words, there's still a chance that I'll beat the mission and the game won't let me save? I guess I'll need to test it myself... Little busy with StarCraft Remastered now, but I'll try...

Sometime it doesn't but it doesn't crash to desktop.

I saw your other posts about leaving, but again: Dark Reign works perfectly fine on 64-bit systems. It has for a lot of time. Most Windows 7 setups were 64-bit. No issues. Your 64-bit theory doesn't seem to have any basis I can see.

Recently there seems to have been a Windows 10 update that interferes with how the GoG and community patch no-cd cracks for Dark Reign work. I know this because I tested a retail version of Dark Reign and it works fine.
If you want to play on Windows 10 just use v1.8.1 (the community patch). Just don't try saving mid-mission during the campaign though or it will crash, that is one of the few bugs the community has yet to fix. (saving between missions is fine)
Dark Reign 2 was pretty much abandoned in Windows 10 because the basic 1920x1080 resolution and the fricking MUSIC still don't work. People are PAYING for this.

I'm seriously considering learning C, Assembly or something just to fix these bloody things because the programmers are useless.
If you're implying Activision or GoG should hack in support for resolutions that were never supported, your expectations are unrealistic. Almost no one does this when re-releasing games, unless they're remastering them (and then they usually charge more for the job too).

It isn't hard to get 1080p working though.
