I can choose to start the game with the controller no problem, but as soon as I get to the first screen where I can control a character it pops up "PLAYER 2 HAS JOINED THE GAME" when I press any button and now I have two characters on the screen, one controlled with the keyboard with 3hp and one controlled with the controller with 1hp. As I'm playing this by myself, this presents a bit of a problem. Going into Options>Controls lets me drop tjhe controller for Player 2, but won't let me assign it to Player 1.

Anyone else having this issue and know a fix? Been looking forward to this game for the better part of a year, would be great to be able to play it!

Development discovered thanks to a kind stranger on Steam!

If you're like me and are using a DS4 with ds4windows, just exit ds4windows and start the game. Cuphead has native DS4 support and the Xbox controller emulator with ds4windows screws it up.

Yes I solved it! Closing x360ce works fine for me, just need to remap the keys in game.
