N3XU5: Hi does anyone have this issue that Carma stops at the loading screen forever after pressing start to play a race? (any map)
avatar
STEPSONSAND: Try dgvoodoo2. Unzip the files under MS\x86 into the carmageddon directory and change all the color settings to 32 bits in the advanced panel of carmageddon video settings. It works on my pc with Windows 10
I did all that, and the game runs, but I get an exception after about 2 races for an 'Access Violation'. I'm also on windows 10, and running the MAX PACK unofficial addon. any idea why that error keeps coming up?

rulerit2: 'Access Violation'.
You did not install anything game related in the programs/applications folders, did you now? That usually leads to problems like that.

I don't think so? Where are those folders located, so I can double check? I don't have TDR2000 installed on the same hard drive as windows even, although something could've been automatically sent there from the MAX Pack installer.

Should not be it then as those are under C: and called 'Programs' and 'Programs (86)' in Windows 10.

Ah, yeah don't think anything ended up in there. Double checked to make sure MAX Pack didn't put anything there, but I can't be too certain. Looking up keywords from the error window, it seems that that exception is related to Directx somehow, but I can't find a solution anywhere.

rulerit2: related to Directx
Did you remember to download and install DirectX 9?

Can I force an install of 9? I think I have 11, and whenever I go to get the installer, it always tells me I have a same or newer version installed. Never tried to get an older version. I assume it makes a difference?

For some idiotic reason, DX11 and 12 do not come with complete DX9 support. Just download and install the offline installer. They will co-exist nicely. Anything prior to DX9 is often broken too but there are ways and means to solve that on a per game basis.

I didn't know that. When the installer told me I already had the latest version, I assumed there was nothing I could do, not to mention I figured that meant it would have everything I needed. I got DX9 installed and I at least made it through 4 races in a row without a crash, so this looks promising. Thank you very much!

rulerit2: Thank you very much!
Glad to be of help.

A normal race can either be won by reaching goal first or making sure none of the competition ever reaches goal. Some cars are only good for one of those.

Spectre immediately comes to mind...
Kinda thought that installing directx 9.0c was basic knowledge you need for old games.
Guess some people with new pcs still don't know that.

I haven't tried to run this game in a long time, and all the other games I've gotten from GOG have run flawlessly on their own. As it stands, The problem has gotten worse since the night I installed DX9. Can't even get through one race most of the time, and the one race I did complete managed to lock up the game so hard I couldn't use my mouse, so I couldn't end it with task manager.
If all else fails, read GOG's help text for the game and then contact support if you still need help.

It's using dgvoodoo2, it runs under dx11 so he didn't need dx9
