Vermillion665: There originally was a bug in the game that basically put you into a situation were you cannot win.
During the final part of the game escaping the tunnels where they are collapsing you always die between the two portcullises because you cannot out race the instant death timer of the level.
Is there a way to mod the movement speed or was that done all ready because i've tried this stage 4 times now and I always die at the same spot, that being halfway between the two portcullis area and almost at the teleporter.
use the DCOTE patch. Check off the checkbox for "Double time for escape sequence" this patch works on the new GOG version as well

its not really a "patch" its more of a tool that locates the executable and gives you a whole checklist of things you can adjust

Thats nice man but its sad that a game that is being sold is broken and cannot be completed without having to use a 3rd party patch.
I expected that GoG fixed the games issues including the issue with the escape timer/bug but sadly it has not and having to use some 3rd party thing doesn't change the fact the game is broken and should not be sold until it is beatable without a 3rd party fix.

I did write to support a week ago but it was ignored.
I advise everyone who bought the game to email support, in number they will listen.
Either that or they can refund us all our money for selling us a broken product.

Honestly i have no idea how gog is able to patch other peoples games, how is that even legal? How do they even gain access to the code?
Well, GOG aren't game developers and they don't usually have any access to the source code of the games they sell. They are, after all, only a distributor. So a true fix won't be possible, but unofficial community patches have been utilised in getting other games to run and then be sold here on GOG, so it may be that the only solution would be for them to include some kind of CPU limiter (if it is indeed related to CPU cycles) or provide the DCOTE (or a modified DCOTE) patch to allow users to make use of it if they need it.

I'm currently waiting to see if and how this progresses before I decide whether or not to buy, though it is already far better than the Steam release from what I've read, and it may be the best version available for today's PCs.

EDIT: In fact, can anyone see if DCOTE is already present? Only I just saw a post saying that there is a CoCDCoTELauncher.exe inside the engine folder in the game installation (used to change the screen resolution).

If GoG decide to sell a game then the game has to work, it can't work up until a point and then not work because that is selling a broken product and that in most countries is illegal.
I did look in the engine options and did find a CoCDCoTE launcher but that is literally just the options menu, which allows you to change resolution and the usual stuff, sadly no way to change the movement.
Also I did hear a long time ago there is a 3rd party patch to increase the timer for the tunnels, I've no idea why it was not used since it was a common bug. They did say they used other patches to fix some of the issues.
What I can't stand is the lack of communication since I know there has been a dev in other threads talking to people, why they will not talk to us here I've no idea.

So it sounds like the unofficial DCOTE patch is needed then, to either increase the time or the walking speed. This is unfortunate, but maybe if enough users raise it and if GOG can get permission to use the patch then an updated version including it can be provided.

Well it would be nice if they at least addressed the issue in the thread but who knows whats going on.
Something has to happen because right now having to lookin online to beat a game with game breaking bugs is silly.

Does this patch solve the issue? And if so, does it fix it by upping the walking speed or extending the time limit?
https://github.com/sucklead/DCoTEPatch/releases
I had a chance to speak to GoG support and they were able to get past that part twice with my save game but still I could not.
I am not sure if it is some weird hardware issue or something else going on but I was advised to use the unofficial patch to beat the game.
I used the patch and even with 2x time to get out of the tunnels I was still dying at the exact same spot.
So I changed the movement speed to max and was finally able to beat the game by going sonic fast through the entire stage.
Seems like the game has some weird issue with that area in you have to blitz past it or keep dying in the same spot.
GoG support also put up on the support page a link to the patch if you can't beat the escape part and their suggestion is to use it, so if it is indeed a weird bug that happens for who knows what reasons you are going to have to use the patch and max out movement speed to escape because even with double time I couldn't get past the instant kill.
The way I used to do it back in the day was to run while looking down at the floor. You need to memorise where to go but the path isn’t very complex and you should remember it well by now if you’ve already tried to clear that stupid passage for a dozen times.

I know it sounds stupid but that’s the only way I could clear the game—I didn’t have the unofficial patcher back then. You don’t even really need to hurry or find the shortest route that way.

Hello. Just finished the game on Linux with Wine 2.20 and never got any of the game breaking bugs (reefs and the final run). I wish that Dark Corners return soon to GOG. It's a brilliant game.
I couldn't beat this timed race at the end either. I eventually just gave up and watched the ending on youtube. Other than this one caveat, this is now one of my favorite games ever. Next time I play, I might try some of these patch techniques.

russ869 are you happy to work with me to find a better work around?
