Tellur: The installation folder is still called just "broken_sword_5_the_serpents_curse_episode_1". I undersand that this is not an issue and that the file inside, "setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-1", is the full thing?
JudasIscariot: You probably started downloading the game just as we were changing the installers from Episode 1 to the full game. In order to ensure you have the right files please check that you have the following files:
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2.exe
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-1.bin
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-2.bin
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-3.bin
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-4.bin
setup_broken_sword_5_2.0.0.2-5.bin
That's the latest and greatest installer for both episodes :)
We have been trying to sort this out with GOG Support but only received a general formal email about corrupt files. There was no real reply at all. Could you confrim for us that the following is the cause of the problem:
Revolution put out a press release that Part Two would be available on GOG at 6.00 PM, London time. GOG did not comment on this, but about an hour after that time replaced the 2 Serpent's Curse icons with one icon called Season Pass, with no reference to Part One or Two. At this point, many customers went to the Download section and saw that the message that the release would be the end of April had been replaced by 5 Download files. There was no message that these were still only Part One (the earlier version, not that attached to Part Two) and so many customers, including ourselves, downloaded them - using up much downloaded data allowance. Once the files were on the computer, it was clear that they were just a repetition of files downloaded in December. After several complaints on forums, GOG replaced the 5 files with 6 files which are the new complete version of The Serpents Curse. Could you confirm this sequence of events (which is also confirmed by the fact that the files change in number from 1 to 2)?
Apparently, the corrupt text problem is separate to this, but it should be considered cautiously, as the re-downloaded Part One files introduced it, and they are not part of the complete game.
Failing a refund from you, we would like a solution which involves patches from Revolution, as we use our service provider's data allowance professionally and cannot re-download the game again.
When you confirm the above sequence of events, could you also advise whether the following steps might assist us in place of re-downloading.
We have aready downloaded file 6, in the hope that it might help. It didn't, but it has the 2 number. If we download the new exe file, and rename the earlier version 1 bin files with the corresponding new version 2 file names, will that be sufficient to make the game work? We have noticed that these No.2 bin files are the same size as those numbered 1.
Edit: We are adding this after writing the above. On close inspection, the Part One files put up by GOG first around 7pm yesterday in Britain are not just Part One files but include extra material, although they are not Part Two by name or in a useful form. This is clearly why GOG replaced them, and apparently assumed for a short time that they were the correct Part Two files. It is unclear how they were put up in error, but surely they must have been supplied by Revolution? This new information makes our suggestion of renaming the files less likely, but it may not preclude Revolution compensating GOG and the victims of this error with a patch or patches. Being forced to download again expensively seems outrageous.
