The game crashes as soon as I arrive at the orange ScummVM screen----it just shuts down on its own. My specs are windows 7, x-64, inspiron 620, intel i5-2320.
I did use GoG Galaxy to download and install the game. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

Is there any specific error prompt?
Could you check if the following suggestion is of any help?

I did download a dev version of ScummVM from the link you provided and I was able to get Blade Runner to start playing, but an error screen kept on popping up. It has something to do with an assertion failing---apparently there's something wrong with the expression _mixerReady.

Assertion failed!
Program: C:\Users\Tudor\Downloads\mingw-w64-master-latest(1)\mingw-64-master-5b10413b\scummvm.exe

Could you attach your scummvm.log file if possible?
It should be located here:
%APPDATA%\ScummVM\Logs\scummvm.log

Also, when the game launches, is there any sound playing at all?

GOG won't let me attach log files, so I've copied and pasted the whole thing here. There isn't any sound playing when the game launches because the speakers are unplugged at the moment---is it possible to play through this game successfully without any sound?

[2019-12-30 19:50:32] WARNING: Sound initialization failed. This may cause severe problems in some games!
As far as I can tell this is the cause of the issue for you.
I am able to reproduce this issue, if I completely disable my sound device so that "No output devices found" is displayed on Windows Sound Settings.

Blade Runner can play with muted sound, if you have the subtitles (which I see that you have properly set up), but it won't work ok if the sound output hardware is completely disabled; the subtitles in cutscenes will work, but in-game they expect the sound resource to be played even if it is muted in order to determine the duration of displaying a subtitle quote on-screen. Also, the current version of scummVM will output this assertion fault and you'd have to keep Ignoring it to progress.

Is it possible to enable your output sound device and try again?

Could you please clarify? Is your the scummvm.log similar too? Do you have the same assertion fault when launching the game from a scummVM build?

ok this is really strange because its working now and i don't know what i did, it was crashing at startup yesterday every time i tried starting the game but not anymore. i booted up the game to see what exactly the error message was (it had something to do with the scummVM thing) but all is well now, thanks for replying and trying to help :)

I just plugged the speakers in and the error prompt no longer appears now, and the subtitles are appearing both for the cutscenes and the dialogue. The game seems to work fine so far, thanks for all the help!
