Right now http://www.gog.com/game/blade_of_darkness is not working.
Too bad it's removed like this. Usually people have a 2 day period to try and get it.

serpantino: Checked this morning and it's back again. Still a real crappy deal for those who hadn't bought it but wanted to though. GOG should really be more on the ball with expiry dates for licenses and have some kind of notification clause in place with publishers.
GOG may not have known. It was Codemasters that lost the license, not a contract between Codemasters and GOG that expired, if I understand correctly. Codemasters should have made the information available; GOG may not have been aware of the dates, since license agreements between publishers and their product people are surely not public documents.

You don't lose a license overnight. There are contracts and stuff.

That's right. Contracts between Codemasters and the game producers, which can in fact end overnight, if there are problems or if suspension clauses are invoked; I have no idea what actually happened. Might have been a pure calendar matter that Codemasters didn't follow up on. However, when a license to distribute is lost, the owner generally can call for an immediate halt to distribution. Happens all the time. There are movies that can't be released, music albums that have been withdrawn without notice, plays that are shut down for contract violations. People always get angry at the last guy holding the bag, but they are usually not the ones who caused the problem - shit rolls downhill.

GOG is not a holder of property. They may want to give more time, but if a distributor loses the right to distribute a game then a retailer may not continue to sell it. The goods at that point are not theirs to sell. People here go on as if there is a choice involved, and there isn't any.

Elmofongo: So have the confirm what is going to happen to the rights? Is it just gonna be up in the air for anyone to get? Or it will remain in limbo similar to System Shock 1?
avatar
Foxhack: Who the hell knows? It's Codemasters, they don't give a fuck.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T BUY YOUR GAMES AT FULL PRICE, CODEMASTERS. YOU KEEP REMOVING GAMES.
...Thats not very enlightening :(

drealmer7: You need to do better with your announcements of removing games. As has been said, it makes almost no sense to only post the announcement in the game-specific forum, it should be in the general forum and made public on your home page if you really want to make games available to people.
GOG has been told this a number of times before, both about better time-frames AND posting removal threads in the General forum

I don't think they're listening :(
The reasons of these procedures has been stated too, it seems that it's the people who do not listen.

Great, was asleep or out when it was removed, a 1.5 hour window is not enough time.

By any chance, does anyone have a spare gift for trade?

G-Doc: We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Falci: That's sad. It's even sadder that it's been removed from everybodies shelf too. :( Mine included.
What are you talking about? I have purchased this game last year, and it is still on my shelf, of course.

If you looked right after they pulled the game from the sale catalogue you would have seen that the game disappeared from your shelf (like it did for everyone who owns it). But you looked now and in this time frame gog fixed this (old) bug that is happening every time they remove a game.

I'm so glad I won a giveaway a while back of BofD from apehater. It does suck that more notice wasn't given for the removal from GOG, like when the Nordic games were removed and we were given enough time to purchase the games we wanted before they were removed. I bought 2 games when I learned the Nordic removal was announced.

Exactly what mobutu said. ;)
As others asked, what's the reasoning behind posting this only to the game specific sub-forum, where the only people who are likely to see it ( if at all ) are the people who already own it? Just trying to keep it low-key and keep the negative backlash to a minimum? Not cool. :(

I don't blame GOG that this happened, but if you really care for your customers and want to give them a realistic chance to purchase a game before it's removed from GOG, you need to post this sort of thing on the front-page, or at the very least on the main forum.
Very important point & hard to over-stress it.

Maybe they're already negotiating a new deal to bring it back and they think they might be successful in a week or a month. In that case, there's no reason to get everyone in an uproar over nothing.

I don't know the answer, but I doubt it's a PR reason since GOG.com haven't done anything wrong.
