Hi everyone.

I wrote a little fix, that should remove stretching and make the game use as much space as possible while maintaining a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Just drop the files in the zip in the same Directory as the BGE exe. Also if you've changed the NoBands value in the registry, you should change it back to 0.

If you get an Error message like "DirectX 9 was not installed properly" or "This application has failed to start because D3DX9_43DLL was not found ", you first need to run DXSetup in the Redist subfolder.

I've also included a way to overwrite the game's resolution setting, which might help the people having issues under Windows 8, though i haven't tested it since I don't use Windows 8. Disable Antialiasing in the game settings and change the value bUseOverwrite in d3d9 ini to true and setX and setY to your desired resolution.

Thank you, I'll give it a try.
Keep getting errors regarding MSVCP110.dll. Even when I try to install, errors still come up.

Sorry, I forgot that most people probably haven't installed the Visual C++ 2012 Runtime yet. I've updated the link to include missing files.

I looked it up and it claimed it was on the 2010 version. Anyway, I tried running it again after installing it despite the errors. I'm getting one about DirectX 9 not being properly installed, despite running DirectX web setup and being told it's up to date.

The problem with DirectX is that you need the exact same version an application was built with, which the web setup usually does not supply. I've now included the DXSetup that should install the correct version.

That fixed the widescreen. It gets a little cut off at the bottom where it shows the buttons in the inventory menu, though.(If there's two buttons on the same side, the bottom one will have the lower part cut off. Other than that, not bad.)
Nice work Idarion! :D

I just disabled 'no bands' in my registry, chose a widescreen resolution with the setup utility, and dropped your fix into my BG&E directory and it worked liked charm on my Win8 64 system. Wow, I didn't realize how the nice the art looked in this game. It's nice to finally be able to see it. :)

I've only played around with it and an old save for about 10 mins but it seems good so far. It's a little disorienting seeing the display wide instead of 'no bands' tall, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. ;)

thanks for the fix, it looks so much better now!
with the fix there are black bars on both sides of the screen, alost like the game is displayed in 16:10 format (i have a 16:9 display), is that intended?

The game actually uses an 16:9.4 aspect ratio internally. Setting the value of bPillarBox16to9 in d3d9.ini to false will remove the black bars, but you will also lose a part of the image at the top and bottom.
Hi there.

I'm experiencing this problem: i.imgur.com/GTl0JzG.png
I wonder if I did something wrong.
I have installed both DirectX and VC++ runtimes (although there was no error popup anyways).

I found the issue. The way I've handled the resolution override broke the games antialiasing. But it should work now if you don't use the override.
Nicely done! Fixed most of my problems with this game. =)
Running into an issue. Yesterday, the fix was working fine, but today when I try to start the game, it doesn't start - no error or anything.

To be clear, it goes:
1. "Graphics card driver not up to date" - Press OK
2. Settings App (resolution dropdown is empty, antialiasing off, HW Vertex Processing + W Buffer off) - Press Play
3. "Drivers are not up to date, want to launch anyway" - Press Yes
4. Cursor changes to working for a second, and then nothing.

Removing the files related to this fix (d3d9.dll, d3d9.ini, msvcp110.dll, msvcr110.dll) allows the game to start up, but the resolution is terrible and I can't change it due to the resolution dropdown being empty in the settings app.

Here's what looks like the related error in the Event Viewer:

Finally got through some backlog to give this game a try. Wow, this fix is awesome! I don't understand why this hasn't been sticky'd yet.

I installed the game originally and set the resolution to 1680x1050. I tried it out without the fix once, and then with it. I definitely noticed a difference without the stretching and even some glitching I was getting went away. I think I had some black bars on the top and bottom that shrunk to very thin after the patch (almost unnoticeable now).

Good work, and highly recommend for anyone else thinking about using.
