This wasn't obvious to me, so perhaps is worth mentioning: include "sally.idx" along with "slot0.sav" thru "slot4.sav" when you back up your savegames (either to archive them or to save over the first slot again).
Being a programmer, I naively assumed "sally.idx" was a static index file into "sally_clean.bf", but it isn't, it stores the descriptions of the slots.
If you didn't back up "sally.idx" it's no big deal, just load and immediately save any slot and its description will be fixed up.
I love this game to bits, but [insert rant on lazy console ports, limited number of slots and inability to name them].
Thanks a lot !
I hit this thread by accident, you save me a lot of headache.

Since it also solved this query, may I humbly submit it to The Powers That Be as perhaps sticky-worthy?
[makes obeisance]
I think it automagilaccy appears on Community Help when the thread is created as a Question and then the creator flags it as Solved.
Let me create a thread so you can reply it ...

There:

Go ahead and copypaste the explanation so I can flag it as solution.

Done.
Ok done.
That was fun, let's just wait a day or so and see if it appears in the Community Help section.
Edit // FAIL

Thank you... I'm going away for the weekend and installed the game on my laptop. wanted to pick up where I left off and when I copied just the save files over, it said no saves found.
Saw this thread and all is well. Thanks a lot!

We'd thought it would be automagically appear in the support section by creating a Question type thread and responding it, but we were obiously mistaken.
Fail or not, this still feels like win, since I stumbled upon it and was delivered from despair to rejoicing in a few seconds :D
