Can I play this with my 360 controller? Is the game frustrating to play with a mouse and keyboard?

Shakey-Lo: here is an xpadder profile I have made for BG&E with the 360 controller. just run xpadder then open the controller profile by clicking the small controller icon on the left, then load the BG&E profile on the right. then run the game and you should be good to go!

BG&E profile
I *think* it faithfully mimics the original xbox control scheme as best it can. only thing is you don't get analogue movement, the thumbstick is just mapped to WASD, but that can't be helped because of the game only supporting the keyboard.
oh and you must have the default keybindings in BG&E for it to work properly.
I was able to play up to the first save point with no dramas, controls felt fairly natural.
I know this has been solved already with the xpadder stuff, but I wanted to propose another solution which just happens to be FREE..
I used Joy to Key.

It works really well. I was able to map everything in the game to the pad, including the mouse controls to the right analog stick of my Logitec pad.
Worked really well for me.

Replying to a year old post just in case someone finds it useful!

I've made a JoyToKey config for BG&E on a wired 360 controller which attempts to replicate the XPadder profile posted above (so with any luck is as faithful to the XBOX original as that is).

Played the first five minutes of awesomeness without problem, and hopefully helps a few people who bought it this promo weekend.

Download the config from here, unzip it and drop it into your JoyToKey folder.

EDIT: I don't have hosting atm, will put the file back up when I've got a new home!

I'm using a PS2 game pad adapter, and would like to play with the original mapping. Just found it on GameFAQs:

Left Analog Stick - Move Jade or Steer Vehicles
Right Analog Stick - Move the Camera/Zoom In or Out
R1 Button - Switch to First Person Viewing
R2 Button - Run or Accelerate Vehicles
R3 Button - Position Camera Behind Jade
L1 - Crouch
L2 - N/A
L3 - N/A
Start - Access Menu and Pause Gameplay
Select - Access Map/Read New E-Mails
X Button - Context Sensitive Action/Attack with Staff
Square Button - Roll/Detach Hovercraft from Beluga
Triangle - Context Sensitive Sidekick Action/Compass on Vehicle
D-Pad - Select Items in Gameplay
