FlamingFirewire: Are these manuals what constituted the games original DRM?
avatar
TheJoe: They're not, there wasn't a copy protection test for the original versions of BASS.

The security manual is a sad remnant of what the game could have been. Every character listed in it was meant to feature in the game in some way (I believe a strong number of them were just random NPCs with flavour dialogue). Most of them were cut because the development of the game suffered a few budget issues and the technology wasn't quite up to it.
The reason why I thought they might be that was because I've seen other games from the period use methods like this (such as, "What was the name of the character on Page X and what is his main characteristic?")

Too bad the game ended up shorter though.

Staredown: Took me a while to work out exactly what was updated. Could definitely have used a 'new' icon by it, but appreciated never the less.
When you click on "My account", "My games - 1 updated", you'll have a "All [number of games] & Updated 1". Click on it and you'll have the game updated

Well, I'm pretty sure there was such thing. In a terminal which performed retina scan it was not enough to get an implant, it was also required to provide information from security manual. This I think was removed when BaSS was released as freeware for ScummVM project. I might have remembered this incorrectly though, since it's been quite a long time since I played BaSS, and even more when I got it first time before GOG release.

Yes, that's what I did, but that didn't tell me what in BASS had gotten updated. Considering it's been over a year since I've downloaded the game and it's extras, a 'new' icon next to the security manuals would not have been remiss.

tfishell: There are probably legal issues, but please look into including the OST
What matters is, I have it now. ;-) Thanks

I experience the same bug, it's pretty annoying. Same thing happened with Covert Action when the manual was added in the extras.
I downloaded the new security manuals a few days ago when they were released, and after checking the forum to see what was new, as others mentioned the downloads didn't show what was new. Today BaSS is flagged as updated again, but once again I see nothing in its downloads flagged as new or updated.
Thanks a lot for the goodies, I will dive deeper in these atmospheric manuals one evening the next days, to prepare my first playing of the game.
It's nice to see early sketches and concepts of what would later be Broken Sword's Lady Piermont! :D

Quite an awesome addition to an already amazing offering. Yes, BaSS is free everywhere, but the GOG version is the only one I can run straight out of the box with no hassle whatsoever. And for those of us who like video games but hate to fiddle with files and logs and *.inis and whatnot, this certainly makes it the best version out there. For free. And with all the extra content.
I've downloaded this new security manual 2 days ago. Is there another newer version to download? Or is there any new content? I've seen the new alert of this game.

Website glitch.

Yup.

What up with that??!
Did something new get updated? I saw a new notfication today for BASS... again. I downloaded those security manuals a couple days ago already.

Yep, it's frustrating. They should indicate what was updated.
