I assumed - since it is a GOG / DRM free game,
a internet connection would not be required. However, if I try to star the game without network, it simply crashes directly at start.

BattlestarGalacticaDeadlock [version: Unity 2017.3.1p3 (a66397957d3b)]

BSG.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module BSG.exe at 0023:00000000.

Is there any solution for this?

Seems to be more and more common. DRM now means, Not Steam. All else is off the negotiation table. Go post it as a comment on the game screen.
Well, there's the sentence: "DRM-FREE. No activation or online connection required to play." on the game's GoG shop page, so if online connection is required to play, it seems like fraud to me.

Therefore, I'd call for either full refund AND apology, or (preferably) for a patch to remove such thing from the game.

I would like to know if this is true or an issue that will get fixed later from a higher-up source, because even though I have it on Steam already, I tend to rebuy games on GOG for DRM-freeness. Especially games I like, such as this one.

Not being DRM-free would put a damper on that.

I've just unplugged my network hub to check this. It isn't correct.

The desktop shortcut (or via galaxy) points to autorun.exe.
This tries to access the internet to display news/ads for other games by the developer.
If there is no internet connection then the left side of the launcher displays internet explorers default "can't connect" screen, but otherwise all functionality is available.

Bypassing the launcher entirely by launching bsg.exe (found in the install directory), works as you'd expect.

Are you by any chance trying to play using wine on linux?

Use the BSG.exe file in the installation folder.
Starting the game with an airgapped system should be part of the QA process, and apparently isn't.
I had no issue running this game without a internet connection, both with and without galaxy.
just try running BSG.EXE from the games install dir.

This is on windows 7 btw.

Well, this should be easy enough... rename "bsg.exe" to whatever the launcher is, and you're set to run it from Galaxy's "play" button, too.
Nice trick, but we shouldn't need to use it.

Or just edit the launcher (desktop shortcut) to point to bsg.exe instead of autorun.exe.

Oh, absolutely, if you use a shortcut instead of Galaxy.

Yes actually it is and this game works fine with no connection. I just bought it, installed it, disabled my Ethernet adapter and launched the game. Works fine.

Launching an exe is not a trick lol

The game should handle a lack of internet conection more gracefully with the default installaion configuration.

Not to us, maybe.

There do exist people who will think you're god for going to the store and buying an HDMI cable to hook a laptop to a projector or TV, though. Yes, that is sound coming out of the TV now, like it didn't when you were using a VGA cable!
And there exist people who think you're god for cycling power on a router to restore Internet connectivity.
