Been playing for about a month on Veteran\Veteran\Medium Funds\Ironman. It's a struggle.

Now, I'm an old school TB strategy player and also a roguelike fanatic. I know it's supposed to be tough and unforgiving, this is after all why I play this game and not one of the countless other "normal" TB strategy games. I also still love it, however I'm getting worried I may be getting to a point where I will just get too frustrated and stop playing. I have a nagging feeling that this game could simply be unbalanced regarding Ironman mode - but it's probably just me not being good enough. I hope ;)

I'd like to hear from other people who play on Ironman - what basic tips regarding survival and gittin' gud in general could you give?

At the moment I can survive a week or two, but eventually just fade out from generall attrition and lack of money, at which point a battle comes against some superior force (which still looks pretty basic to me, say "few Brigand Raiders" or the undead) and it's curtains.

It helped me a lot to watch this Streamer https://www.twitch.tv/videos/218921634
He plays frequently Battle Brothers and is pretty good.

I also always have troubles with Veteran. Do you use the Net and Dagger to get good armor from your enemies? When you dont damage their armor (only use the Dagger skill which directly go to Hitpoints), they will drop their armor after they died. Usually you pick to one with the best armor, and dagger him to death...usually you kill every other enemies first. Thats very helpful.

Also what the streamer I mentioned above told us helped me:
Melee Skill up to 60 -> only spear, because of the extra hit chance
Melee Skill 60-70 -> Sword
Melee Skill > 70, the weapon you want to use

I hope it will help you.
You may want to lower the difficulty settings first. Money is an issue in the beginning. Trading early is extremely important. Do not hire too many recruits either, because wages are a burden. Don't buy too much equipment. Just the minimum. You can loot the rest. Cheese the game (retrieving artifacts and fleeing, bringing chasing enemies to soldiers or to camps, etc.).

Here's an early game build: https://imgur.com/MFz0GOV. It focuses on Talents improvement. You can use it for all your melee recruits. As soon as you've looted Mail armor, the game should be easier.
He has to be taking melee almost every level [imgur post]. I have been taking the largest useful stats I can and using adaption perk to hit. Maybe an early gifted would work better.

Fodder units will still have quick adaptation to remain useful though

Also, OP says he has been playing for a month, day 30 in the game? I don't know how often you play so real time is useless. My first play though was going well up to around day 100 when I was smashed by a 26 man unit that was well armed(war). Slaughter. I ran to get to my goal and was too outmatched by that point.

I know this post is a few months old and you may not see this reply but the Twitch video is no longer there. If you happen to remember the streamer's name could you let us know or link to his Twitch channel. Or, if he also has Youtube vids of his Battle Brothers gameplay let us know the link or his Youtube channel name?

Thank you.
